Benro TMA38CL overview

  • 1Description

Support up to 35.3 lb worth of gear with the TMA38CL Long Series 3 Mach3 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Benro. Made from 9-layer carbon fiber, the 4-section legs are secured via twist locks and extend to a maximum height of 69.7". The center column can be replaced with the included short column to allow the tripod to reach a minimum height of 14". The rubber feet can be swapped out for metal spikes so that the tripod can be used on hard surfaces, such as ice, or soft surfaces, like carpeting or a lawn. A ballast hook on the center column allows for the addition of stabilizing weight, and the included carrying case protects the tripod during transport. A 3/8"-16 threaded stud on the mounting platform lets you attach a head of your choice.

    Benro TMA38CL reviews

TMA38CL Long Series 3 Mach3 Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod for tall person Great: - The height is perfect for me. I'm 6'2 and with a tripod head and center column not extended the camera would already sit at my eye level. - The legs are very stable. Okay: - The included shoulder strap has double usage; for tripod bag, and for tripod itself. However, the padding is somewhat thin. I suggest getting one with thick and large neoprene padding. (Matin or OPTECH brand, for example) - Takes time to switch between long center column and short column Meh: - The center column would sometimes slide down very slowly. You need to lock it very very tight, tighter than you what you think it's enough. But this might be a problem with just my unit. - Needs to change to short column to shoot low. I wish for an angled center column like in Manfrotto tripod. 2 weeks in with an extensive outdoor use on a road-trip, I've found this tripod perfect for me. It's might be too big for some but about right for me. Comparing to the new Manfrotto 055 tripod, Benro is cheaper, taller, higher load capacity, and has twist-lock as oppose to flip-lock. Overall a really durable, stable, and lightweight tripod. Perfect for landscape and architecture photography. Great for its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Full Height Tripod I purchased the Benro TMA38CL Long Series 3 Mach3 Carbon Fiber Tripod as I was looking for a sturdy & lightweight tripod for wild life photography. I am 185cm tall and wanted a tripod that offered full height without bending. I have matched this tripod with a Benro B2 Double Action Ballhead which sets the camera level with eye height and I have the option to raise or lower it via the centre column or leg adjustment. The tripod is sturdy and secure with the camera mounted and yet light weight for transporting. Perfect Tripod for my needs and height. John S.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Tripod I've borrowed/used other heavy duty tripods but this is my first large heavy duty tripod purchase and so far totally pleased Pros; Superb quality, very sturdy, smooth, perfect height for my 6'3" frame, top notch accessories including the short center column and spiked feet, feels like it could support a truck, excellent quality and purchase, great bang for the buck. Cons; Not many, maybe a little larger than I originally anticipated but pleasantly surprised, not the lightest CF but then its not designed as a travel tripod but will still take it on extended trips. Yes, I would most definitely purchase it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and Steady Shooting Platform The Benro TMA38CL Carbon Fiber Tripod is just what I needed for wildlife photography. I shoot with a Nikon d-500, Sigma 500mm f4 lens w/1.4 teleconverter and need a steady shooting platform. Coupled with my Wimberely Gimbal head, this setup allows me to shoot flying birds or birds up in trees at sharp angles with confidence that my photos will be sharp. The complete setup weighs about 18 pounds which is still light enough to hike the miles, even uphill with reasonable comfort. The tripod, camera and lens are covered with a Lenscoat cover to provide protection from the elements and some added cushioning when carried on my shoulder. The legs hold the shooting angles and I have the provided short center post on for getting nice and low for shorebirds and waterfowl. I'm very happy with my purchase and would certainly recommend it to anyone for these purposes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fstoppers was right I already needed a new tripod but was dreading the whole ordeal of buying one because a decent model is so expensive. Then fstoppers had that article where B&H lent them a few tripods to test over a few months on a project. This Benro was the least expensive but performed most satisfactorily. Of course this lead to B&H selling out and I had to wait a 2 or 3 weeks for restock but it finally came and yes, it IS a great deal. Lightweight, 4-sections for extra height, firm adjustments, well machined parts. Comes with a shorter center column to swap in if you need to get the camera even lower than the regular center column allows. Nothing to complain about except the tripod only fits inside the travel bag if you do not have a head mounted to the tripod. This pretty much makes the bag a waste, which is a shame because it's a really nice bag. Probably could drop the price $5-10 if they stop including the bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for interiors photography I purchased this tripod as an upgrade to my older, heavier 028b. It's built great, breaks down to a smaller size well, and has a great feel when working with it. The only trade-off is that when one section of legs are extended, the camera height is just a little bit high but if you keep all legs collapsed and seek the right height by extending the center column then the spread of the legs is not wide enough to give a shake-free platform if on carpet. You're on carpet a lot when shooting interiors. The solution is to simply put a mark on each leg halfway down so you can extend the legs a half-length. With that work-around available this becomes probably the best tripod available for architectural and interiors photographer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product at a GREAT PRICE` Been using RRS and Gitzo fiber tripods for years, then found this beauty that does all that they do and MORE for LESS MONEY! Great value. Tremendous quality. This is now my "go-to" tripod in the field! Still keeping my RSS and Gitzo's though - paid a small fortune for them! Highly recommended!
