The Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras from Metabones allows a full-frame or APS-C Nikon F-mount lens to be mounted onto a Micro Four Thirds-mount camera. While doing so, the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view while providing a 1.3-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range.

If a lens intended for 35mm film or similarly-sized "full frame", as well as APS-C camera sensors is connected to a camera with a Micro Four Thirds-sized sensor, it would project an image larger than the Micro Four Thirds sensor was built to accept. Able to capture only the center portion of the projected image, the effective angle of view of the lens would be narrowed, creating an in-camera "crop factor". The Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras condenses the light from a lens designed for APS-C as well as 35mm film, or "full frame" camera sensors and projects it onto a Micro Four Thirds sensor. This allows a Micro Four Thirds sensor to utilize more of the light gathered by a connected lens, which effectively reduces the crop factor while making available to the sensor an additional 1.3 stops of light for each of the lens's f/stop settings.

This adapter is constructed from aluminum alloy for durability while minimizing weight and its mounting rings are made with brass to further prevent wear-and-tear. Inside are six lens elements in four groups that are designed to provide optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and a detachable tripod foot is included that features 3/8" threads as well as compatibility with Arca-Swiss tripod heads.

The Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras does not support electronic communication between an attached camera and lens. To help determine the amount of light that enters a Micro Four Thirds-mount camera when using this adapter and a Nikon F-mount lens, an aperture dial is built into the Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras. The aperture dial is designed to provide aperture control for Nikon G-type lenses which do not have an aperture ring. Nikon pre-AI, AI, or many post-Nikon AI lenses can have their aperture settings widened or narrowed using their built-in aperture control rings if preferred.

Like Nikon G-type lenses, Nikon E-type lenses also do not have an aperture ring. However, the aperture dial is not compatible with Nikon E-type lenses which require electronic communication with an attached camera for aperture control.

This adapter can be mounted onto the Panasonic DMC-GH4, GH3, G3, G5, G6, G10, GF3, GF5, GF6, and GX1 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Cameras; the Olympus PEN E-PL7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera; the Blackmagic Cinema Camera with Micro Four Thirds mount; and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.

  • Allows a full-frame pre-AI, AI, or post-AI as well as an APS-C Nikon-F mount lens to be used with a Micro Four Thirds-mount camera
  • Built-in aperture dial is designed to provide aperture control for select Nikon lenses that do not have an aperture ring; aperture control is possible for Nikon G-type lenses, but is not possible for Nikon E-type lenses
  • Maximizes apparent angle of view of combined camera and lens
  • Provides a 1.3-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range
  • Six lens elements in four groups for optical clarity as well as color fidelity
  • Detachable, Arca-Swiss compatible tripod foot with 3/8" threads
  • Aluminum alloy components for weight reduction
  • Brass mounting rings prevent wear-and-tear
  • Locking mechanism for secure attachment of lens with push-button release

Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Nikon G Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised almost. First of all had a lot of dust and an oily residue on the lens, so I'm nit sure if I received a used or returned item that was not cleaned before being re-sold. Because there was quit a bit of small dust particles it became necessary to clean the senor in my camera after a one use. The image quality is very good, as advertised and the only lens that was a disappointment is my Nikon 12-24mm f4 DX, which has a lot of vignetting until I zoom out to 15mm. No problem with my FX lens yet, but I haven't tried my 70-200. I was really hoping my 12-24mm would work at it's widest angle, but no such luck. I'm using a Lumix G7 for the video and focusing is no problem through the EVF with focus peaking.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great with the Panasonic GH4 but... I just purchased the Panasonic GH4 with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens (Nikon mount) and this Metabones SpeedBooster XL 0.64x (Nikon mount). The extra 1.3 stops of light is great. I can get some amazing close up shots and increased depth of field and the bokeh quality is excellent. Using this lens and speed booster, my Sigma lens goes from a f/1.8 to a f/1.1...amazing! Two things I have issues with: 1. When at 18mm you get some vignetting in your photos (very annoying), however zoom in to 20mm and the vignetting is gone. Just something to keep in mind. 2. No auto focus capabilities with Nikon mounts. Seriously, come on Nikon! I'm sure Metabones would love to offer this option to their customers, so maybe Nikon is being stingy about allowing 3rd parties to create adapters that utilize their electronic auto focus. Not a big deal when shooting video, but for photography, sometimes you need that auto focus. I now have no idea which f-stop I'm at because this adapter is dumb and cannot communicate with the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well...question sharpness Works well. I use with the GH4 and it works great. Here's one observation, however: If I use a native lens like Olympus 25mm f/1.7 with my Gh4, the focus peaking goes crazy...very strong outlines and I know I'm in focus. When I use the Speed Booster w/ a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 (about the equivalent with the crop adjustment) or the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, I get peaking, but it isn't as strong of an outline...meaning the camera doesn't seem to recognize focus quite as clearly. At this moment I can't determine if it just isn't as sharp using both the Speed Booster and Nikon glass as the only Olympus glass by itself or if it's the camera that can't see it as clearly. I feel it isn't quite as sharp in reviewing my footage. It looks great...but just not identical in sharpness. However, I use the Speed Booster for my documentary head shot interviews since I am often sitting in a small space and achieving a DOF is challenging with the shallow background. This Booster really helps. I really thought my faster Olympic lenses provided nice light anyway. However, you clearly do get more light in with the Speed Booster. So I love it, use it, and will absolutely continue to do so and recommend it, but because everything I shoot is 4k, I'm going to lean on my Olympus lenses for Ronin-M or Glidecam shots where my subject is moving and I have to rely often on focus peaking to know if I'm in focus and use this Speed Booster for many of my interviews with non-moving subject shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product! This little thing is amazing! It works flawlessly. I bought this to go along with my Lumix G7 for some video work but it works great for photos too. The build quality is amazing as well as the picture quality. The glass inside doesn't take away from the image at all. The only downside is that it does not communicate with the camera so the aperture and focus are manual. Not a big deal for video, but might be a deal breaker for some photographers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the hype I love having the opportunity to use seek out an find nearly half a century old nikkor glass. I've used other adapters and focal reducers for my gh4, I finally broke down and got the Metabones. It was worth it,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I've been getting to know the Speed Booster XL 0.64x for a week now attached to my new Panasonic GH4. The quaility of construction is solid and works like any part of a professional DSLR. All of my Nikon lens work extremely well including DX lens (as as much to do with the GH$ as the Metabones. I strongly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Adapter, but pricey After checking all the reviews, comparisons of other Speed boosters, I picked this up. Awesome fit for the GH4, solid build, absolutely sharp focus. No electronic connections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I use this with my GH4 and Rokinon Cine Lenses. The Speed Booster allows my 24mm lens to be truly a 24mm. I was worried it would be closer to a 50 or 35. The booster fixed the crop factor. The extra stop is great as well for low light images. I am very pleased with the results!
