A layer 2 switch like the one found in this kit consisting of the EnGenius EGS7228P 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Layer 2 Managed Switch and two EnGenius EAP600 High-Powered, Long-Range Ceiling Mount, Dual-Band N600 Indoor Access Points, resides on the data link layer of your network and offers high-speed connectivity between end stations. The switch provides 24 Gigabit ports that support IEEE802.3at/af PoE+, and 4 SFP slots for fiber transceiver that can extend the reach of the network beyond the limitation of Ethernet cabling.

The included access points each feature high transmit RF power (29 dBm on 2.4 GHz and 26 dBm on 5 GHz) for long range connectivity to wireless devices within buildings. With wireless speeds up to 300 Mb/s on each radio and a Gigabit port for connecting to a switch or router it is suitable for expanding a network with additional bandwidth to support additional users.

Combining this EnGenius switch with the two EnGenius access points gives you the ability to greatly extend the reach of your network. By connecting each access point directly to the switch you can provide high power, long range network access to a large number of users. Additionally, each EAP600 access point features 802.3at/PoE compatibility eliminating the need to run dedicated power supplies to each unit.
