    Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS-2.8MM reviews

4MP Outdoor Network Mini Dome Camera with Night Vision and 2.8mm Lens (White) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent camera - will be buying more So far i've been real pleased with the Hikvision DS-2CD2542FWD-IS-2.8MM - image is incredible, and even recording at full resolution (2688x1520), storage is only 5-8 GB daily with the H.264+ encoding. I'm fairly fred flintstone at setting up a camera like this, which was my concern - it really didn't take that much effort, and the few items i couldn't figure out, Hikvision USA tech support was surprisingly available and helpful. I'm going to be buying 4 more of these for around the house but this camera was a big step up from the NEST outdoor camera i'd bought to wet my feet in security cameras. fwiw

Rated 5 out of 5 by from to add to my review above after 2 months still like the camera - excellent performance in all but one regard: night vision IRs are maybe good out to 8-10 feet. But considering IR leds just seem to attract insects, mainly spiders and moths (in my case, i've got a monster 4 moth) i just turned it off and have a 40 watt equiv LED light bulb (5000K) that actually performs better and doesn't attract insects. One warning, the hikvision software iVMS 4200 motion sensitivity isn't the best in terms of adjustment, and causes conflicts with Blue Iris software - I had to un-install it to get BI's motion alerts to trigger, and then re-installed the iVMS 4200 software as it gives access to the SDHC card storage. With BI's motion sensitivity adjustment and zone control, i've got the sensitivity adjusted just where i want it, The camera still rates 5 stars for me

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstand quality in every way. I purchased this camera to upgrade from a much cheaper, low-end consumer-grade camera following an attempted home invasion. I did quite a bit of research and was happy to see that Hikvision is a very standards compliant manufacturer, which meant that this camera should work flawlessly with my home security camera server. Set up was quite simple. Admittedly, I have background in computers and networking. The camera is built very solidly. I fully believe that it will withstand rain and snow with no problems. Image quality is nothing short of astonishing! Wow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera...but the worst support ever! The camera is great. It's well made, easy to install and the picture is great. All good, unless you need HIKVision USA technical support and then you will be subjected to complete arrogance stating that they will not provide support with with any connection issues (connecting to recording/storage device or to their app for remote viewing) due to liability reasons and refer you to self-research or hiring a certified network installer. Their web site provides outdated videos and incorrect data so you won't get much help there. Clearly the US subsidiary does not care much about technical support. I spoke with several support staff, all with limited knowledge of their products or really bad attitudes. They have limited support hours (9 to 5 California time) which are not published on their web site or mentioned if you call after hours (We're currently closed with no details). In summary, the manufacturer makes a great product, but support by the US subsidiary is exceptionally poor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Small Camera Installed outside my backdoor. Awesome resolution day and night. 4 stars because the ability to view a single camera online took a step back with the discontinue of hik-dyn dns. Overall though very pleased.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good hardware but software is inadequate I have had two Hikvision cameras working for a couple years and decided to replace a third camera with a Hikvision model so I could view all three in the iVMS software... Which brings me to the iVMS software. I have developed Windows desktop apps in my job and know that desktop software requires solid testing before release. The previous version of iVMS that I had installed worked, but did not inspire confidence with the occasional "fatal error", etc. Installing this new camera, I updated iVMS to a newer version (2.7.1.4)- which should be more robust, right? Well, now the client software doesn't even start so I can view none of my cameras. I'm sure it is due to something like a legacy registry key that didn't get cleaned up uninstalling the old software. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, etc.. to no avail. If this is the trajectory of Hikvision software, then it's time to look elsewhere. This is not "plug and play" and the fragility of the Windows software speaks volumes about organizational problems at Hikvision. If you use other ONVIF software, this may work for you. Otherwise, it's buyer beware.
