Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art Overview

Distinguished by its impressively fast design, the Nikon F-mount Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM is a unique Art-series zoom covering a range of wide-angle focal lengths. Intended to replace a series of wide-angle primes, this 24-35mm zoom stands out due to its bright f/2 constant maximum aperture, which benefits both depth of field control as well as the ability to work in low-light conditions. This lens is also characterized by a sophisticated optical design, which incorporates several low dispersion and aspherical elements to greatly reduce color fringing and distortion throughout the zoom range. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to individual elements in order to minimize flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in strong lighting conditions.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, the lens sports a Hyper Sonic Motor to produce quick, smooth, and quiet autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, the physical design utilizes Thermally Stable Composite material for durability in a wide range of environments, and a brass bayonet mount also offers rigidity and mounting precision.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens' is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Wide-angle zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36-52.5mm equivalent focal length range.
Fast, constant f/2 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in available light conditions and also provides greater control over depth of field when using shallow depth of field techniques.
One F Low Dispersion (FLD) element and seven Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements, two of which are also aspherical, markedly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Three aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortion for increased sharpness and accurate rendering.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Brilliant lens - excellent quality

Brilliant lens - excellent quality - as usually with Sigma. Canon EF is a great mount and I use it with Sony FX3 by using the Sigma adapter.

Exceptional lens

Looked at a lot of lens before choosing this one. I wanted a 28mm but also was looking for something with some flexibility yet the quality of a prime at wide angle. Super sharp to give me results I was looking for with my d810. This lens ratifies all my needs and has quickly become the one I'm leaving on my camera all the time, for a variety of different shooting, cityscapes, architecture, street, portrait, landscape.

I purchased the lens for one thing. Image sharpness is excellent.

I do morning walks around my little city in Coburg Oregon. This lens is the perfect focal length for me. I would rate is lens as a (10)for its edge to edge sharpness, and build quality. Get one you won't be sorry.

I actually bought this for the Sony A1 (with sigma adapter) because with the APS-C crop you can have a 24-50 f2, but it's loud when autofocusing. It's also sharper then a lot of other lenses which I like at times and others I don't. I wish their was a sony one that didn't make noise when autofocusing, but it's the old kind of noise that really stands out. I like it in theory, but their is just something missing that would make it the perfect lens. It's interesting, but not for everyone

Heavy, but it replaced three lenses for me.

I have been using this lens for more than a year now. I have never been a fan of the distortion that comes from 16mm wide angle lenses when photographing people, so I often found myself shooting those lenses at 24mm anyway, therefore for me this lens completely replaced my 16-35 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, and 35 f1/4. This 24-35 f/2 is sharp, accurate and extremely well built. Compared to other wide-angle zooms it is heavier and longer, so be prepared. For a video project I could barely get a DJI Ronin to balance the weight of this lens attached to a 5D4, but I was eventually able to. To me the range of this lens is adequate. When I need to go wider I pull out the proven and affordable 17-40 f/4L which is more sharp edge-to-edge than any of Canon's 16-35mm varieties up until the newest Gen 3 iteration (Canon finally got it right) but I digress. As most will complain about, the zoom direction on this lens is 'the wrong way' for a Canon and that is about the worst of the complaints. Filter size is a large 82mm so be prepared to buy some new filters if you do not already have a lens with a diameter this large. I have not noticed issues focusing near the edges of the frame with this lens. I have exposed it to dust, dirt, winds and light rain and it appears to be sealed up well. All in all, I hope Sigma continues to innovate and come out with some neat and non-traditional 'combination' lenses like this, as I will certainly be willing to give them a try based on my experience with this one.

A+ for Sharpness to the Edges

The 24-35 has been tested by various individuals and consistently found to be a very high performer, at all focal lengths and all the way to the edges. I normally avoid zooms because none deliver the image quality of a prime lens across the FX frame. The 24-35 is the exception. Image quality at the extreme frame edge at ISO 64 and critical aperture on my D850 is astounding. This is f/5.6 for 24,28mm and f/8.0 for 35mm. The 24-35 is quite close to my Sigma 135mm ART, which is the sharpest lens I have ever used.

Great quality

Great quality lens. 24mm isn't ultra-wide, so certainly not as versatile as one could imagine, but still, this is a great 35mm lens with some zoom.

Excellent with my gimbal

I shoot with a Nikon D750, do I need a lens dock for this lens?
Asked by: William
The lens dock is needed for firmware updates or fine tuning certain lens characteristics if you want to do that. You can take it right out of the box, put it on your camera and use it immediately as is. The dock is not required.

Asked by: Stephen
To use the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF on the Canon EOS R Mirrorless Digital Camera, I would recommend to purchase either the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, B&H # CAMAEFRF, or the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, B&H # CAMAEFRFCR, to mount the lens on the camera. You would retain autofocus and automatic exposure capabilities.

question

There is much difference in image quality compared to the 35mm 1.4 ??I know the prime is always better, but in this case, I cover 3 glasses in one but I'm afraid of losing a lot of image quality. what dou you recommend?? 35mm or 24-35mm ???
Asked by: enrique diego m.
I owned this lens previously and used it on a D750 and I can only say it was a wonderful lens. It was ideal for dark cathedrals and other low light situations. The sharpest lens in my bag. I only sold it because it was not stabilized which I began to require in very low light because of advancing age. It weighs 33 oz so it can get heavy for a long shoot but it is well worth the effort. It is a beautiful piece of glass. I miss it.
