I had such a baf experience with this camera. I set it in my baby's room to watch her while we are working in the house. Our 1 month old daughter is crying in the room for more than 1 hour while the image camera shows she is sleeping, yo realise latet that the image is just frozen, amd this happen on 2 ocazions. Very very dissapointed.

Probably good for 15 feet distance but more than that and it's all grainy. Maybe just pointing at an immediate area would be okay but I want to see my yard.

What are costs beyond this unit? Subscriptions, etc?
If you're looking to record the camera you will need to pay for the cloud storage. The Nest Aware storage has two options. For 10 days of recording it would be $10 per month or $100 yearly. For 30 days of recording it would be $30 per month of $300 yearly.

If this camera is being set up indoors to view ...
If this camera is being set up indoors to view the OUTSIDE ONLY, would it be better to purchase the outdoor version or stay with this indoor one. Are the actual cameras and night vision capabilities the same in both cameras?
I believe the outdoor version is more of a weatherproof. It seems like the specs for the two versions are the same. I use the indoor cam for inside door way/hall way monitoring and probably will get a "smart doorbell" sometime down the road to monitor outside entryway. It depends what is the "OUTSIDE ONLY". If you can setup the camera outside and get a good connection, it may not be a bad idea to go with the outdoor version. Or if having the indoor cam simply look out to what you want to capture, that works too as it would skip the hardware setup of an outdoor one.

As per google support, "Straight out of the box, you can watch your Nest camera’s live video stream for free. If want to go back and view recorded video, you can view snapshots of events up to 3 hours in the past." The subscription is only necessary if you need to view video from further in the past.
