Photographic Solutions US3BOX overview

  • 1Description

Changing lenses on your camera when you are in the field can cause dust and debris to land on your sensor when it is exposed. The 12-pack of Type 3 Sensor Swab Ultra from Photographic Solutions is a 24mm wide swab designed to clean oil, dust, and debris from a digital camera's CCD or CMOS sensor.

The thick and double wrapped swab is highly absorbent, and each swab is individually packaged to maintain the purity of the swab for cleaning. Additionally, fibers from the Sensor Swab do not shed once the sensor has been swiped across. Furthermore, Photographic Solutions recommends not removing the Sensor Swab from the wrapper until you are ready to use it, since debris may catch onto the swab and transfer to the sensor when cleaning.

Photographic Solutions US3BOX reviews

Type 3 Sensor Swab Ultra (12-Pack, 24mm) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nerve wracking but eventually does the job I usually pay to have my cameras professionally cleaned but I didn't have any time to do that since I had a job the next day. It took me about five swabs to get my sensor completely clean, whether it was from inexperience or that is normal I don't really know but eventually I was able to get it clean. From the first swab to the last I don't think I altered my technique but sometimes I would get a smear across the sensor, almost like the solution didn't dry cleanly. I'm not sure the cause of this but it had me worried. Eventually I was able to get the sensor virtually spotless and smear free.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be aware of sharp corners Be aware of super sharp corners on these swabs that may potentially scratch your sensor if not angled enough while swiping across. The corners on these swabs are super sharp and extends even further than the long edge of the swab, and this made cleaning really hard. You have to swipe aross the sensor with a really sharp angle to prevent the sharp corners "hooking on" to the surface of the sensor. Sadly i did not notice this flaw until it was too late, and the sensor in my Sony A7R3 had a nasty scratch across almost half the sensor surface. I am so used to the swabs from VSGO and they have rounded corners on the swabs to prevent scratching and possibly damaging your sensor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DIY wet sensor cleaning I own two full frame mirrorless, and since those things don't have anything protecting the sensor when you change lenses, they just get gunked up so quickly. Normally, a few puffs from a Giottos does well enough, but the sensor will get dirty beyond that much quicker than a DSLR. The cost to have your sensor cleaned by a repair shop is generally in the 60 dollar range in my area, which if I did all the cleaning myself, is 120 + 8% tax; not an insignificant number for a simple sensor clean. 12 swabs plus a bottle of Aeroclipse is about half of that cost, and no tax! Cost wise, it makes sense. The only reason you wouldn't DIY is due to warranty issues. Check to make sure cleaning your sensor yourself won't void your warranty, but other than that, a clean sensor is a happy sensor!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Got the dust...left streaks I read the instructions, helpful hints online, and used a total of 10 swabs in one cleaning session. The best result I achieved was after the first swab--no streaks! Unfortunately, I kept going to try to get more dust off. It only took four swabs to get the stubborn dust off (great) but it left terrible streaks each time. I was using the recommended Aeroclipse solution and tried getting it really wet (good for getting off crud), barely wetting it, letting it evaporate some before using it, and using it completely dry. I tried different pressures. Always streaks. And the streaks were much worse, more noticeable, and would have been nearly impossible to remove in processing. More dust started to appear at the top and bottom on the sensor, as well, because the swabs were not quite as tall as the sensor. Finally I brought the camera in to my local shop and they were able to remove the streaks--but left a new, very large piece of dust on the sensor. So after $100 (products plus $35 for cleaning) and 4 hours, I'm worse off. The shop said that they use the same product and it is simply a matter of perfecting the technique. Not sure what I could have done differently, though. I would not recommend trying this product unless you have someone familiar with it to help you. Apparently it works for some people--but not me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly designed and Lint Laden After using 3 boxes of these swabs, I am going back to having my sensor professionally cleaned. Beware that these swabs now have small horns on each side that will dig into your sensor when you try to clean it. The swab lifts no dust or particles, it just merely moves them from side to side. It leaves visible dust particles and numerous particulate matter/lint on your sensor that shows in your photos. These swabs are simply not fit for the purpose intended, especially with the new manufacturing design that has protruding horns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got a Nikon D600? I've used these along with the solution to clean my sensor with excellent results. They're individually packaged to remain dust free, strong enough to apply pressure when swiping across the sensor. It's best to find a reputable YouTube video showing how best to go about this if you've never done it before.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not recommended for Sony mirrorless (DSLT) cameras Photosol the manufacturer does not recommend it for Sony mirrorless cameras. Contacted Sony which confirmed that they should NOT be used on the cameras

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now I have a clean Sensor While processing photos from a trip, I found I had a lot of dust spots on every photo. I used these swabs (I used two swabs), and then took a test photo -- spots are now gone. Of course I was careful. Made sure I had a full battery in the camera, and I reviewed the directions very carefully. But by being slow and patient, I had 100% success!!!
