PortaBrace HIP-3 Reviews

Good bag.  Buckle needs improvment.

The buckle latch needs to be improved, or make it completely velcro. It falls apart, wont hold its postion without slipping.  The overall bag is good quality and I like it but the buckle I just got rid of it and sewed 2 velcro on to the straps and it is much more comfortable and ajustable.

Least crazy looking fanny pack

I use it to hold my Leica M6, meter, film, flash, kindle, phone, wallet, pen, note book, keys and snack. I also use it for my 4x5 tech field camera. It has room for 4x5 film holders, 4x5 Fuji instant back and boxes of film and other bits. Prefer it to a small messenger style bag. I like the firm sides and the bit of protection it provides. Looks sort of industrial but Billingham doesn't make a fanny pack. I'm 5'10 and 160lbs and it isn't too big on me. Little waist pockets are sort of useless for me but could keep a spare bill or two.

I would buy this product again and again

I never do these reviews, but just had to on this item! This is a very well built bag and will last you for years, HOWEVER, it has one very large flaw! It has many zippers for storage space, but each zipper is metal and so is the zipper pull. This means that when you walk with this bag attached to your hip, it jingles like the dickens! If you need your bag to be a silent partner on your body, this is NOT the bag for you! I had to break off each zipper pull and put small nylon cords on each. It works this way, but you would think that a Company like Porta Brace would have thought about this jingle problem?? They make superior bags and equipment, but this one in my humble opinion falls way short unless you are in the woods and you need it to warn the bears that you are near??

Quality for sure, value...?

Just got it, used it for a day so far - very impressed with this pack - roomy and durable. I really like the rigid walls of the main compartment. Only drawback was the cost, but of course it says Porta Brace on it. You know what I mean - like it a lot overall.

Works great for our gear

We use the hip pack to hold our wireless recievers and then use two 3 foot XLR cables to connect them to our P2 camera - since it is not possible to mount our recievers on the camera. We had the medium one, but there was not enough room for me to fit the recievers, batteries, wide angle adapter - etc.. It is a little big for all day use, but sure beats carring around a run bag.

Nice hip pack, a little small, but nice.

Nice but a little small for my needs. I found the HIP-4 more to my liking. I still improvise the HIP-3 if I need a little more space. I use the waist belt together with the shoulder strap so it stays put.

Great Addition

I use the product to free up space in the camera bag. I can carry it like the slinger and keep the every-other-minute tools in it. The top pocket is great for my wireless lav.

question

is it waterproof?
Asked by: Anonymous
It is water resistant. Splashes and light rain will not be an issue. Do not submerge in water for it is not waterproof.
