Vixen Optics's ED80SF 80mm f/11.4 ED APO Refractor Telescope with AP Mount and Tripod is a complete astronomy platform that is ideal for detailed observations within the solar system or for astrophotography. The scope is outfitted with an apochromatic lens system using extra low-dispersion (ED) glass and fully multi-coated optics that produces bright and clear high-contrast images with true color representation across its entire distortion-free field of view. Its 80mm objective gathers more light than smaller-objective models with a short focal length to reduce the focal ratio to a moderately-fast f/7.5, while still being easy to handle and transport. The lens system, glass, and optical coatings, will give you great views of the Moon, planets, planetary moons, and brighter deep sky objects. You will be able to split binary stars and observe bright objects with virtually no comas. For astrophotography, a flip-mirror diagonal so users can have an eyepiece at the 90° position and their imaging rig in the other and be able to check position and tracking simply by flipping the mirror down.
The Advanced Polaris (AP) mount, engineered to customized as your needs demand, is offered here in its bare-bones configuration. It will serve well as a conventional equatorial mount with competent 13.2-pound payload capacity, adjustment dials for the altitude and azimuth axes, and a counterweight and shaft. A clutch-less friction-control system allows the mount to be quickly moved to your target by simply pointing the OTA where you want it with your hands. Rounding out this complete observational platform, is Vixen's APP-TL130 adjustable-height tripod. It has an adjustable height from 20.7 to 45.6" to accommodate a variety of users. An array of optional accessories are available separately so you can tailor the mount to your specific needs including: a right ascension motor and Star Book One hand controller kit, declination motor, Polar alignment scope, and Polar meter.
