Vixen Optics' Advanced Polaris-M Mount with ED81S II Telescope is a complete astronomy platform that is ideal for detailed observations within the solar system or for astrophotography. The scope is outfitted with an achromatic lens system using super low-dispersion (SD) glass and fully multi-coated optics that produces bright and clear high-contrast images with true color representation across its entire distortion-free field of view. Its 81mm objective gathers more light than smaller-objective models with a short focal length to reduce the focal ratio to a moderately-fast f/7.7, while still being easy to set-up and transport - especially when using the integrated handle on the rear mounting ring. The lens system, glass, and optical coatings, will give you great views of the Moon, planets, planetary moons, and brighter deep sky objects, while allowing you to split binary stars and observe bright objects with virtually no comas. For astrophotography, a flip-mirror diagonal is included so users can have an eyepiece at the 90° position and their imaging rig in the other and be able to check position and tracking simply by flipping the mirror down.
The mount's right ascension micro-stepper motor has full-circle brass wheel gear that allows the mount to track over extremely long periods with little error for long-exposure astrophotography or prolonged observation of a single celestial object. While this mount configuration does not have full Go-To capabilities, once you Polar align the mount and manually navigate to your subject, the Star Book One controller will track it across the right ascension all night. This version of the AP-M includes Vixen's TL130 adjustable-height tripod. Use the included Star Book One hand controller to move the scope for navigating and to track celestial objects. Since near and deep sky objects appear to move at different speeds, the controller features celestial, solar, lunar, and King's rate tracking speeds, in addition to slew speeds from 0.05x to 1000x. An integrated autoguider port adds to the mount's usability.
