The 256GB Tempo PCIe 3.0 SSD from Sonnet is a low-profile PCIe card that can be installed into any x4 or larger PCIe slot in any system using the included full-height or low-profile brackets. This SSD can serve as a fast bootable drive for Mac Pro systems with a model identifier of MacPro3,1 (early 2008 and newer). When used as a boot drive, this SSD will help reduce the time it takes to start up your computer. As this drive connects using a PCIe connection, it will operate faster than an SSD that uses a SATA connection. Using a PCIe 3.0 slot on a compatible Windows or Mac system, the Tempo is capable of read speeds up to 1,936 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,529 MB/s, with its performance varying depending on the operating system and the interface used.
Installing the Tempo PCIe SSD into your system is easy. Simply plug the card into any x4 or larger PCIe slot and then start your computer. The Tempo is ACHI-compliant so no additional drivers are needed in order for it to work because the necessary drivers are automatically installed. Monitoring your SSD's health and performance is supported through S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data reporting. For systems with a Thunderbolt connection but no PCIe slot, use a Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion system that available separately and able to achieve read speeds up to 1,350 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,288 MB/s. When this SSD is used in conjunction with a Mac and a Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion system, it may also still be used as a boot drive.
Included with the 256GB Tempo PCIe 3.0 SSD are low-profile and full-height brackets. This SSD is protected by a limited 1-year warranty.
Thunderbolt Port? Add an Instant SSD Solution
Got a Thunderbolt connection, but no PCIe slot? The Tempo PCIe 3.0 SSD is made for use in Sonnet's Echo Express Thunderbolt 2-to-PCI Express card expansion systems, the xMac Pro Server PCIe 2.0 expansion system/4U rackmount enclosure for the 2013 Mac Pro with Thunderbolt 2 ports, and the xMac mini Server PCIe 2.0 expansion system/1U rackmount enclosure for Mac mini with Thunderbolt ports. Adding this card to any of these Thunderbolt expansion systems is a great way to add fast SSD 1,350 MB/s performance to your Mac with Thunderbolt ports without having to daisy-chain another storage device.
