Feiyu FY-WG overview

  • 1Description

The Feiyu WG 3-Axis Wearable Gimbal is a miniaturized version of Feiyu's handheld gimbals, offering motorized 3-axis stabilization in a compact, wearable form factor. It is compatible with GoPro HERO4, HERO3+, HERO3, and similarly sized action cameras, with mounting space available to accommodate a GoPro LCD Touch BacPac. For streamline operation, a single button turns the gimbal on and lets you switch between operating modes. You can also plug-in an optional remote control for adjusting pan, tilt, and roll angles and other calibration settings.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the WG features 1/4"-20 threaded holes for horizontal, vertical, or inverted mounting onto a variety of support devices. It can also be used with any three-prong and quick-release GoPro mounting accessory thanks to an included T-clamp that screws into the back of the gimbal, adding a standard GoPro mount, and an included quick-release buckle. This means you can capture all of the immersive action camera shots that you're accustomed to, but with motorized pan and tilt axis stabilization. A curved adhesive mount is also included for immediate attachment to helmets and other objects.

Note: Firmware update software is only available for Windows.

Camera Compatibility
Compatible with GoPro HERO4, HERO3+, HERO3, and other models with similar dimensions. There is also enough room to accommodate an attached GoPro LCD BacPac.
Flexible Mounting Options
Two 1/4"-20 threaded holes lets you mount the camera horizontally or vertically. It can also be used with any accessory that has a standard GoPro three-prong mount or GoPro quick-release interface using an included adapter and quick-release buckle.
Operating Modes
Pan Following Mode: Locks tilt and roll axes. Camera smoothly pans to follow the direction of the handle.
Pan and Tilt Following Mode: Locks roll axis. Camera smoothly follows the pan and tilt motion of the handle.
Lock Mode: Locks the pan, tilt, and roll axes of the camera in the position it is in when mode is activated.
Inverted Mode: Allows you to turn the gimbal upside-down. This mode is an inverted version of the Pan Following Mode.

Manual Pulling Locking: After the gimbal has been powered on for eight seconds, the tilt angle can be adjusted manually in the Pan Follow Mode and the Lock Mode. Adjust the title angle to the desired position and wait for 0.5 second until the gimbal registers the new angle.
Camera Orientation Detection System
No matter how your camera is mounted (left-aligned or right-aligned, upright or inverted), the Feiyu WG will identify the mounting position and automatically make the appropriate adjustments to its configuration.
Single-Button Operation
A single button is used to turn the gimbal on/off and switch between operating modes.
Video and Camera Charging Interface
Using an included cable, you can connect the GoPro to the WG's video and camera charging interface port, allowing you power the camera from the gimbal batteries, as well as receive an analog video signal from the GoPro. This signal is output via the micro-USB port for sending to an optional external monitor.
Compatible with Optional Remote Control
An optional remote control is available that enables pan, tilt, and roll angle adjustment, as well as other calibration settings. For manual tilt adjustment, simply hold the camera in the desired position for about half a second to register the setting.

    Feiyu FY-WG reviews

WG 3-Axis Wearable Gimbal for GoPro and Similar Action Cameras is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good for motocycles Purchased the WG and have only used it twice. Used it today on a ride up Angeles Crest here in SoCal. Started off fine and about 8 minutes in according to the video time it died. Not the first time this has happened but this time when I try to power it up it just beeps and stays limp. Not sure what the warranty is on it but it's only 3 weeks old. Unfortunately my room mate threw away the packaging it came in so not sure what recourse if any I have. Would hate to have spent $240+ on what potentially can be just a nice carrying case and useless electronics inside. Not at all happy with this product!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good while it worked... I received my gimbal a 2 weeks ago. The first time it worked perfectly and helped me recorded some beautifully stabilized video with my gopro. The second time I tried to use the gimbal it started to violently shudder. I immediately powered it off. When I powered it on again this time the roll axis arm automatically when through it's whole range of motion, slamming into both sides of the metal housing base. After that I heard a pop, and now none of the gyro arms will energize. I tried to reset the onboard unit with no luck. Next I tried to download the calibration program from the Feiyu website. The instruction are poor and the translations are lacking (you cannot even use the calibration program on a mac). The device would not be recognized by the computer control program, so I then tried to use the Feiyu USB REMOTE CONTROL. Even through the Feiyu website (http://www.feiyu-tech.com/products/13/) shows the remote working with the wearable gimbal, the cable shipped with the remote only works on the G4. The connection port was changed on the wearable gimbal so you have to purchase an additional adaptor for the cable (C2G USB2 MINI B FEMALE TO MICRO USB B MALE B&H# CA27367). Luckily B&H has a great return policy. Hopefully my next one will not have any electronic problems like the last one...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'M GONNA BUY 3 MORE!! I first saw this by Youtubers Sam & Niko from Corridor Digital and shortly after Youtuber OutOfDarts, who is a Nerfer in the Dart Tag Community like myself. I just had to get one but the price got me a bit iffy but I just had to make the jump. Upon arrival (and very fast shipping to New Zealand might I add) I was amazed at the awesme looking case and extra bits and pieces to set you on your way. Set up was a breeze! Haven't updated any firmware. Currently using it with a Xiaomi Yi camera but needed an easy lil mod to mount it on as the Xiaomi camera is a couple mils high. Planning to add it to my 3rd person rig for a Nerf War. Shoukd be interesting!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointing The concept with the gimbal is great, and when it works, the video stability is greatly improved. I primarily use mine with a chest mount while road or mountain biking. The problem is the quality. The first gimbal would constantly spin uncontrollably with slight bumps. With the spinning, it would constantly disconnect it's internal wires. Reconnecting them is possible, but can be quite a pain. I eventually got very quick and disassembling and repairing this problem, until it disconnected one last time and would no longer work with reconnection.B&H took the return, and sent a replacement. The second one, did not spin, however has issues with tilting. With any movement, the gimbal can no longer identify a level plane and maintains a 30-45 degree tilt. This causes either unusable footage, or footage that must be heavily rotated and cropped.Support is poor. All communication from the support team comes in very poorly translated English. They will take the gimbal back to recalibrate it, but shipping to China is $+ and many reports online with similar problems were not resolved by doing this. So now, I'm outside B&H's return policy with a poor product. This could be the worst product I've ever purchased from B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Stabilizer I am using this with a chest mount on a mountain bike. The motors are very strong on this unit and can handle rapid movement with ease. You will want to install the tuning software on your computer to adjust the speed of panning. It comes in the fast mode which can make side to side movements look a bit jerky. Just change it to normal and that smooths it out right away. I recommend the new wireless remote also, especially if you are using this on a helmet. Battery life is a solid 2 hours. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What POV cameras have always needed!!! I was using my gopro on 2.7k, sending the footage through ProDrenalin software to stabilize, and editing in Filmore for a final output at 1080p. With the Gimbal, the image is so stable there is almost no need for stabilization software! BUUUUUUUUT Buy the insurance. mine stopped working one day after about 3-4 batteries worth of use while biking(couple of hours). It is all metal, but I never dinged it, so I'm not sure how durable it is. It sticks out like little T-Rex arms, so I'm sure it could break if you use it for crash padding... Idea is a 5, but if it is going to break after a month or so.. 1 star

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little gimbal! I've owned mine now for just under a month and have used it in various scenarios so far. I don't do extreme sports so it hasn't been through anything too rigorous, but so far, I'm 100% satisfied. Pros: - Small form factor makes it both easy to transport, and is also quite versatile when mounting. - Battery life is great, and I've yet to go through a single pair for a normal day of use. - Very smooth and stable footage. Cons: - Software is not available for Macs. Luckily I'm running Parallels Desktop or I would have been stuck. - Instructions for updating aren't very clear. - Would prefer some type of quick release mount for the camera like they have for the G4S (of course we'll likely see it on V2) - Although the footage is amazing in normal situations, quick pans or turns at certain angles seem to confuse it. - Bottom of camera can hit the base when tilted too far to the side. (another fix they've made on the new G4S) Bottom Line: If you already own a Gopro and want a versatile, powerful gimbal, then go for it! The price is reasonable but could be a bit cheaper consider the new competition that's recently hit the market. For the time being at least, this small gimbal has no competition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works on a moving vehicle I'm in motorsports and bought this to use on a moving vehicle. Don't use it for racing but at more normal speeds up to 45-50 mph I had no problem.
