Aputure LS 1c Overview

A sleek LED panel with a CRI of 95 and beam angle of 45°, the Light Storm LS 1c from Aputure includes the LED fixture along with a dedicated controller box that accepts V-Mount type batteries.. Aside from providing power to the unit, the included controller box also enables wireless dimming control using the included remote. Four groups and three channels can be employed for quickly switching between different looks.

The Light Storm LS 1c features a slim and durable aluminum alloy housing along with a manual yoke for versatile positioning. A four-way barndoor set offers greater control over the light and ten sheets of included diffusion paper also helps to produce an even, diffuse quality of light. The light control separation design, afforded by the controller box, also maintains a low center of gravity for easier placement of the fixture and easier switching of batteries during use.

Features
  • The light's design incorporates 1536 individual LEDs to produce a beam angle of 45° along with a CRI of 95.
  • Variable color temperature control for tungsten to daylight, 3200-5500K tuning.
Included wireless controller box features a battery plate that accepts Sony V-Mount type batteries for convenient, portable power. An AC/DC cable is also included for AC power.
The controller box, which features two 90° antennas, also permits wireless dimming and color tuning control using the included 2.4 GHz remote. Four groups and three channels are also available.
  • DMX512 protocol is also supported for wireless control.
  • Aluminum alloy construction is both durable and sleek for use in a variety of conditions.
  • Manual yoke allows for variable positioning. Additionally, a four-way barndoor set is incorporated into the design for further control over the beam.
  • Ten sheets of acid-free, smooth surface diffusion paper is included to broaden the light quality, reduce the output to 85%, and provide an effective 180° beam angle.
  • A LEMO-style connector is used between the controller box and light fixture for convenient, one-handed installation and removal of the included connection cable.

Aputure LS 1c Reviews

Very well built, even for old tech.

It’s great to have a common remote with other Aputure lights. That why I paid the higher price for 4-5 year old LED tech. Aputure also seems to take a long time bring updates to market after they are released. I suspect this still has a few years left for that reason.

Brighter than Ikan Lyra 1x1

Compared this bi-color light side by side with my Ikan Lyra bi-color 1x1 and the LS1c was about 10 ire brighting when both lights were set to 5500k. Pleasantly surprised

I really like this light quite a lot. It seems to sit in the space just below the super high price stuff, and above the low-quality stuff. To build quality and form factor are both excellent. I like that the controller is separate and not built into the lamp head, This makes the head itself smaller and lighter. The power output is quite good! I was able to put light on three models walking towards camera with a very strong floor-to-ceiling window back light from a powerful midday sun!

Really unhappy with this product

Just so you know, I keep each unit wrapped in bubble wrap inside a padded bag then snugly tucked into a Pelican case. Only I use them, so they're not subjected to abuse. Right away one of the cheap plastic antennas snapped off, unfixable with Superglue. It also uses flimsy 8-pin connectors on the power cable between the controller box and the lamp - the moment one of those tiny, thin pins is bent (which happens as you have to push them, at a weird angle, into the lamp) it won't work, rendering the unit worthless (just had that happen on a job). Had to spend $240 on replacement power cables. Really unhappy with this product.

Excellent Light!

It's absolutely solid and amazing output. The carry bag, which costs extra, is absolutely necessary though. It fits the light perfectly. I wish it was included, but oh well. I definitely recommend the LS. It's a high intensity affordable LED Panel.

Buy these lights - they are awesome for the price. Quality!

Aputure - Bought 2 for fills and hair lights; but they do so much more. A very powerful light that is super versatile. I love them!

Not as bright as I expected

It's a nice light, but not as bright as I thought it would be. I have three other Aputure 120d's and a 300d. This light is really just some fill or soft back and side light so it does the job.

Can't beat it!

Love the kit. Lights are great and rolling case is robust.

How bright is this? What tungsten light is it equivalent to? A 1K fresnel? brighter or less?
Asked by: Michael
It is super bright, well made, overall a great product. I am quite happy with mine. The manufacturers website has good statistics on output, but in very rough terms it is about half the output of a 1k tungsten if I compared the numbers correctly. I shot models walking towards camera with the sun streaming in a window behind them with a hand held LS1 providing the light on the models and the shot came out wonderfully.

Would it be better to get the daylight version and slap on a gel rather than the variable temp to have a higher light output?
Asked by: Michael
For the greater output, getting the daylight version of this panel would be best. A gel can always be added to balance for tungsten as needed.

question

what is the best battery for this and how long will it last?
Asked by: Kamki D.
A suitable battery option to handle the 7A draw of this panel is the IDX System Technology Endura Cue-D150 V-Mount 2-Battery Kit with 2-Bay Charger B&H # IDCUED150DK. Each battery will give you about 1 hour and 25 minutes at full output.

Can I use Dracast 95wh - 14.8VDC on this light ?
Asked by: Ti
Being that this panel draws 120 watts, it is best to use a V mount battery with a higher watt/hour rating to have a decent run time such as the IDX System Technology Endura Cue-D150 V-Mount Single-Battery Kit with 2-Bay Charger B&H # IDCUED150K. https://bhpho.to/2FPKLqS

When I try to purchase from Japan, I get a message that the product cannot be delivered due to a battery problem. I haven't purchased the battery, but is it with a built-in battery or something?
Asked by: kazuto
Unfortunately this like most Aputure lights has a lithium battery in the remote which makes shipping internationally difficult or impossible.
