Griffin Technology GC16035-2 overview

  • 1Description

The iMic from Griffin Technology lets Mac and PC users add stereo audio input and output to USB equipped computers, even when they lack audio in or out ports. The interface allows the connection of microphones and other input devices to an iBook, PowerBook, PowerMac, or other Mac and PC systems, with support for both microphone and line level inputs. A line level output is provided for connecting the output to external speakers or headphones.

The unit is a perfect for converting vinyl LP and tape collections into MP3s and CDs. It will function with most third-party software but, for Mac users, Final Vinyl is available as a free download. Final Vinyl is designed specifically for converting vinyl to digital with features such as waveform-based cue editing, and 10-band EQ, and includes a special RIAA filter that properly equalizes LPs without having to connect a turntable to a pre-amp.

Additionally, the unit can be used as a home studio recording or podcasting solution by directly plugging in microphones and musical instruments, and provides a solution for sound recording into almost any audio application, including GarageBand, iMovie and Final Cut Pro.

iMic - USB Audio Interface is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid During the 1970's & 80's I mixed several audio reel to reel and cassette tapes as well as archiving the vinyl. I needed a simple way to convert these analog recordings to digital and then burn them onto CD's. What I did not want was a piece of expensive bulky gear that I'd have to integrate with my HiFi system. This little device plus an optional line cord with a single stereo 1/8 inch jack to 2 RCA jacks made it a piece of cake. The iMic interfaced to my Mac and good software ( I used Audacity) is all thats needed. I've converted about 20 hours of music and its perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for laptops that don't have a line in I bought this to record our church's services on a low-end laptop that didn't have a line in jack. I couldn't be happier with how well it works. I literally just plugged it into the laptop via USB, let Win10 Home do its thing for setup, set the iMic to line in, connected a stereo out from our analog mixer to it, fired up "Free Sound Recorder" from, and just like that we were up and running in 5 minutes. One of the best tech purchases I've ever made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect I used this device to transfer some old reel to reel tapes that I recently found in my attic recorded in the 1960s and 1970s. I plugged it into my laptop and Windows loaded the necessary drivers. I plugged the device into the RCA L/R line output, put the device into the line-in switch position and the recordings were perfect. The manual recommended using the free open source software Audacity which I loaded with no issues. Audacity asking proved a link to an external website DLL to enable the export to various Audio formats including.mp3. The Audacity software even allowed me to adjust the speed of some of the recordings that were made ins slower speed than my old classic Teac was capable of playing, as well as complete editing controls of the software. I love this device, as well as their recommended free Audacity software audio editing tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well for ham radio digital modes I'm quite pleased with the little sound card. I am using it to transfer audio from my ham radio to my Mac where software decodes the sounds into characters, using FLDIGI software. This iMic USB interface works great, and better than the vintage pro-audio sound card I had used previously. I like the fact that it requires no special drivers; my Mac recognizes it and I was able to connect immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solves problem recording vynel to a laptop Had previously bought a 3.5Audio to usb cable which would not work, although something was getting through with feedback and no proper wave recording. The iMac usb audio interface was recognized as a usb input and it was easy to record and adjust the recording level and the resulting mp3 files played as well as downloaded or dvd recorded mp3s. I would recommend the this product for hassle free use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great with Win10 My laptop has no line (or Mic) input. A friend asked me to make an .mp3 copy of an audio book from cassette, Using Audacity software this was easy, and of good quality. Job Done!
