Ideal for portraiture, the EF 135mm f/2L USM is a medium telephoto prime and a member of Canon's L-series of lenses. The long focal length coupled with the f/2 maximum aperture afford a great deal of control over depth of field for isolating subject matter and using selective focus, and the bright aperture also benefits shooting handheld in low-light conditions. In regard to the optical design, the lens uses two ultra-low dispersion elements to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for high clarity, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. Complementing the imaging attributes, a ring-type USM is employed to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control.

Medium-length telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 216mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords significant control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Two ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an rear focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is dust and moisture-resistant for working in inclement environmental conditions.
Compatible with optional EF 1.4X and EF 2X teleconverters.

EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 676.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp at any F Stop I use this lens with a Canon 6D. I find that this lens produces acceptably sharp images at any F stop. F2 will be a little less sharp if viewed at 100% . At 135mm you need to be careful to select the correct F stop, as it is very easy if photographing more than 1 person, and they are not at the same horizontal plane, one person can be out of focus. The background blur is amazing. This lens produces some great portrait shots but I also use the lens for nature shots to isolate the subject from the background. I don't see any chromatic problems & don't see flare as a big problem. I think you will enjoy the photos you will get from this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing lens! This is without a doubt the best lens I've ever used. I have owned this lens for around 6 months now, and it's a dream to use. I primarily shoot portraits with it. The bokeh it produces wide open is simply amazing. Even though it's not as wide as a 1.8, 1.4, or 1.2 lens, there is something special and unique about the bokeh it creates. The value of this lens is unparalleled for an L-lens in my opinion. I'm really surprised at how cheap it is compared to other prime, L-lenes. You also get a pretty close focusing distance as well, which is nice. If you want a great portrait L-lens, then this should be at the top of your list. The bang for your buck is terrific.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Performance, Great Value I mostly use the 135/2 for portraiture and studio photography, but also whenever I want to isolate a subject. I especially like it on my 5D, where it feels the perfect focal length. I enjoy it less on my 40D, where it becomes an effective focal length of 216mm, and some images blur due to camera shake. Autofocus is fast and snappy, especially when compared to my other fast primes, the 50/1.2 L and the 85/1.2 L II. I do not find the weight overbearing, and it balances well on both the 5D and 40D. I'd love to see Canon add IS to this lens. CA is well-controlled. Sharp wide open with beautiful, creamy bokeh. Typically sturdy L build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dream Lens I shoot wide open at F2.0 using a 5D3. I think it would be a waste of money and glass if you stop this lens down beyond F2.8. Images are very sharp at F2.0. Bokeh is creamy and pleasant. I really wish it had IS. Lack of IS means you have to have very steady hands. Having said this, in order to isolate my subject, I shoot wide open at F2. To minimize camera shake, I use Auto ISO with minimum shutter speed of 250. Shallow depth of field means you have to have proper focus exactly where you want. If you do everything right, your subject will look better in pictures than in real life. I love this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favorite Lens I am a professional wedding and portrait photographer. I love this lens. I have only used it for portraits so far but have completely stopped using the 85mm 1.8 I was using before. The bokeh this creates is gorgeous. Love how quick and sharp it is. It's a welcome addition to my bag and I can't wait to try it out at weddings. I stopped using my was just too big. This one is perfect. Not heavy but still a weight to it that makes it feel like you are holding something special. No real flaws that I have seen, except would love to see this come out in an IS some day....though I am sure that would ratchet up the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon's best kept secret I got this used from B&H a few weeks ago and since then I have been using it exclusively for portrait work on a 5DIV body. I typically used the 70-200 2.8 ii but this produces the same sharpness, bokeh, contrast on the images as the 70-200 but at a much lighter weight, and f/2 does make the image pop-out, almost 3D. My portrait kit is now complete - 5D, 24-70 2.8 II for any wide shots, and the 135 for majority of the work. Oh also an iPad to view images real-time :) Great lens at a great price, you can't go wrong! And thanks to B&H for quickly shipping out the hood and case that got missed during the lens purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heads and indoor sports lens supreme! If you shoot a FF EOS body for indoor sports or a lot of head shots this is an amazingly useful lens! Fast! Smooth pretty bokeh and shallow DOF are hallmarks of this lens. Stop it down and if you have a tripod this lens can produce images that are as sharp as my old EF 200 1.8L USM, unbelieveable detail and contrast but you have to have a high pixel body or fine grained chrome film to get the best out of it. Fantastic lens built old school Canon which is to say heavy enough to ward off a NYC mugger or an Alaskan grizzly bear. But the image quality is worth the pain to carry, the pain to your wallet and the narrow range of subjects and situations this lens is at its most usefull.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BUY THIS LENS! The 135mm is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used. On my 5D and 1D MKII the images are just mind blowing. This thing is TACK sharp, doesn't matter if you're at f2.0 or f4.0. AF speed is awesome on the 1DMKII, even in low light with all focus point activated. I've seen comments about how IS would be helpful, and although I agree, I would hate to see the IQ suffer from this addition. I just make sure that I am using fast enough shutter speeds to eliminate hand shake. I usually aim for 1/160th of a second or faster, and every image I shoot is a keeper. I own the 70-200 2.8L IS, and this lens beats it every time. I have become a prime lens convert... now I just need the 35L and I'll have the perfect setup.
