Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED Overview

A comfortable and versatile wide-angle lens, the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED from Nikon offers a wide field of view along with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture for working in a variety of environments. Its optical design includes both aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, which help to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations in order to produce a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings are also featured, and boost contrast and color accuracy by reducing flare and ghosting. Additionally, a Silent Wave Motor provides fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture supports working in low-light conditions and also enables greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field imagery.
Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are used in the optical construction to reduce a variety of chromatic aberrations and color fringing for a high degree of clarity and color neutrality.
Two aspherical elements are featured to control spherical aberrations and distortion in order to produce notable sharpness and resolution.
Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings has been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. A rear focusing design is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.8G ED Reviews

Sharp Sharp Sharp

I just got this lens a couple weeks ago. I've owned many 24mm lenses in 48 years of shooting. Immediately I unwrapped it and started testing sharpness and contrast around my home and property. Wow! Not just sharpness but contrast and saturation too! This lens is far beyond my expectations. This example has a butter-smooth focusing ring too. I debated the f/1.4 version, but my primary use for this lens is landscape and architecture. I have the f/1.4 versions of the 35, 58 and 85mm Nikkor lenses. Those are for skin, hair, face and color rendering, and they are awesome. But this lens isn't going to be working in my studio doing portraits. I tried to choose the right lens for the purpose. So far, so good! 5 stars!

I thought that I had carefully checked everything about this lens, but somehow I missed that it was made in China. Hopefully, it will work better than one lens I bought that was made in China, but they just don't have the feel that others made in Thailand and Japan have. I have been a dedicated Nikon user since 1971, so this isn't my first purchase of Nikkor lenses.

Perfect landscape lens for my D810

I love this lens. It is sharp all the way into the corners. Has great contrast. Minimal flare and CA. And it is lightweight. It is a great addition to my 85 f/1.8, 50 f/1.8, 28 f/1.8 prime lenses. It has some vignetting wide open, but that can be dealt with in post. Over all I am very happy with that lens. And as always, it is a pleasure to buy from B&H.

Great lens for night sky photography.

Works well on DX as well as FX. If you only get one wide angle lens this should be the one.

Instead of buying the 24-70 2.8 which costs a lot more and doesnt have as nice a bokeh, I bought the 24 and 85 1.8 both ends of the spectrum. Way nicer for portraits and weddings.

Good Choice!

I began looking for a lens to bridge the gap between my Sigma 20 and Tamron 35 f/1.4 to round out my set of primes. (Also have a Sigma 50 and 85) The big debate was between the Sigma 24 f/1.4 and Nikon 24 f'/1.8. After reading many reviews and ratings, I chose the Nikon. Most reviews agreed the two were very comparable, but the Nikon was smaller and lighter. Some were concerned the Nikon was not made in Japan. I believe the quality standards of Nikon are the same no matter where they are built. Others had forward focusing issues. I have not had any. I am extremely pleased with the lens.

question

Will this lens work on a D3300?

Yes. The D3300 requires a lens with its own focusing motor. All Nikon AF-S lenses have a focusing motor.

Pardon my confusion, but I'm having trouble ...

Pardon my confusion, but I'm having trouble understanding the MM vs. F stop for wide angle. I recently purchased a fantastic Nikon D750 with its kit lens, a 24mm-120mm f/4. I love it! BUT I wish to venture into real estate photography and need a wider angle lens, right? Should I be more concerned about that part of it (say, a 10mm) or the F stop part of it (f/1, f/2.8)? I know the wider the angle, the better to catch the whole room but also the lower the F stop, the better the light gathering capabilities for small spaces, like bathrooms or closets. Does that make sense? I'm ready for my next lens purchase and want to choose wisely. Thanks!
Asked by: Otter
As B&H recommended the 16-35 f4 will provide the coverage for interior shots. All of the shots should be taken on a sturdy tripod, so the F-stop is irreverent. A good resource for real estate photography is Nathan Cool on YouTube.

For night photography which wide angle prime do you suggest for Nikon d750?

The 24mm f/1.8 is a good wide lens on the Nikon D750.
