Manfrotto 290 overview

  • 1Description

The Manfrotto MK290LTA3-BHUS 290 Light Aluminum Tripod with Ball Head can hold up to 8.8 lb and extends from 16.4 to 56.7" high. It weighs 3.6 lb and folds down to 23.2" for travel. The 3-section legs have two angle positions, and they employ tension-adjustable leg locks to adjust the tripod's height. A rubber grip on one of the legs adds comfort when carrying the tripod.

Included with the tripod is the 494 Mini Ball Head with an RC2 quick release plate. The lightweight head has a friction control knob that allows micro adjustments without engaging the head-locking mechanism, and a large knob that locks both the ±90° tilt and the 360° panning.

    Manfrotto 290 reviews

MK290LTA3-BHUS 290 Light Aluminum Tripod with Ball Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and Sturdy This is a very nicely made, sturdy, and light weight tripod & ball head combo. It's easy to carry, straight forward to set-up & adjust, and also balances well on my day pack. I like the flip-lock design for extending the legs, which is similar to my heavier Manfrotto tripod that tends to stay in the car. The ball head easily holds my D500 with full frame 28-70mm f2.8 lens and 80-200mm f2.8 lens with tripod collar. I see they also offer a slightly taller version and several head options for this tripod. If you like the looks of that single-sided swing-arm on your Ducati Superbike, you'll love the one-sided design for the pivots at the top of each leg - pretty cool!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value at a Reasonable Price My equipment sees rugged service, particularly my tripod which does not travel in a padded environment. So reasonable price is important. This tripod certainly has that. For your money you get a sturdy tripod light enough not to be a burden. It takes a little experience to avoid catching your fingers in the tripod snaps, but they work and hold firmly. The head lacks dedicated horizontal rotation; you have to use the ball for all moves. But the friction control and the ability to lock in place are quite good and would be at a much higher price. The snap-on-and-off plate allows no adjustment forward or back, but the built in screw handle means you don't have to dig for coins or keys to tighten it. For lighter cameras and product value, this Manfrotto is an excellent choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tripod for small camera. I am a videographer for wedding, events and performance. This light tripod is good for my second camera. And sometime I need switch my camera between the slider and the monopod (with a Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head ), so this ball head is good for my slider since it also using the 200-PL unit. I give it 4 stars because the tripod is perfect: light, solid, nice finishing and good design ---- It can go lower by the easy way. but the ball head is just give a cheap feel. the lock and the friction dial can be one. I used the other ball head take panning shoot, but it hard with this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a Rock yet lightweight & compact I ordered this tripod to be the primary tripod I use for indoor photography. This new manfrotto replaced a sunpak carbon fiber model. So far so great! Much sturdier construction than the Sunpak and the ball head and legs are quick to setup and break down as well. All components are rock solid and built to last. I also have an ancient it heavy Bogen 3211 Tripod (made by Manfrotto) that I also still use on occasion that has never failed me after 25 years of use. That bodes well for this new little manfrotto!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sensible, reliable light weight Manfrotto product Solid, reliable build. Have swapped the ball head that came with the 290 for Manfrotto's 494 mini ball head which allows more movements and is still light and in keeping with the unit. Works well with the weight it's designed for. Sensible combination for hiking; the light ball head fits well with a monopod, and works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Manfroto tripod We chose this tripod after visiting the NYC superstore which in itself was a wonderful thing! The service was wonderful and the salesman was very helpful. We ended up having to order the tripod but it was sent fairly quickly to our home address in AZ. My tripod is so sturdy and so versatile! I take a lof of indooor, macro photos so this comes in so handy when taking those shots. I love my new tripod! Thank you B&H!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod for my growing needs I'm an amateur photog with enough skills to be dangerous. I'm shooting most of my images these days with a Sony a6500 with various frames. This tripod works great, is stable for a lot of my basic needs (sports photos, family photos, corporate shots) and it's sturdy and even easy enough to use that my 5-year old son likes playing with the legs. Because it's built well, I don't cringe when my son is playing with it. ;-)
