I wouldn't say I'm a professional, and I'm not a beginner, but of the handful of lenses I own, this is by far my favorite. Yes, there are other pieces of glass out there that are superior, but for the money you spend here, you get a really great lens that's very versatile. If you're new to photography and just want to have something nicer that didn't come with the kit and do not want to be swapping out a variety of lenses while walking around with your family or friends, this lens will cover everything you need. My only "con" just because, nothing is really perfect, is that it might be a touch on the heavier side. Personally I do not mind its weight, I think others might. Once again, for me, I love this lens. If I know I'm going to be doing a ton of walking around and do not want to be swapping different lenses in and out this is my go too and usually first out of my bag on most occasions. I hope this helps you decide to purchase it!

At having couldn't resolve grainy photo issues with an older model Canon Rebel SL1 I tried out the Tamron 18-200mm for a factory lens replacement. I was honestly stunned by the image quality difference and how well it even captured the subtle textures within my angelic African lions digital painting.

NOT FOR ME

You say; five stars and it's not for you !!!! Well, here's why. I purchased this lens as a gift for my granddaughter who received a Canon body, but without lenses. After some research, and reading the reviews, I decided this would be a good all around lens for someone just starting out using a DSLR, she's 30. So far her comments are: Grampy, it's not to heavy, easy walk around lens, takes great photos, looks good, and the best one, it was FREE, and I love you !! After I talk to her more, maybe I'll get one for myself. Still shooting at 82. And like I always say: B&H, you're still the best after all these years! If you are looking for a lens in this range, my granddaughter recommends it .

Great all around lens

For my first camera, I bought a kit that had two lenses included, but they didn't cross over in zoom, so I found myself swapping back and forth regularly just to get a good picture. This Tamron lens bridges that gap perfectly by coving the range of my short lens completely, and adding in a nice zoom to help with distance shots - I spent the day using just the single lens and never had to worry about swapping it out for something different. This is a great add on lens, perfect for the newer hobbyist like myself that needed something in between the two lenses that came with the camera kit.

I studied this and 2 more expensive options for a new handy wide-to-tele main shooter, supplanting my 17-70 which is acting up. Retired, I don't need the sturdiness and extra oomph of the Canon 18-200:3.5-5.6, nor the extra weight of the Tamron 18-400. After just a couple of casual shoots, this one seems good enough. Short-term, I was most concerned about hunting for focus at f:6.3 instead of the previous limit 5.6. This did well for normal subjects in a moderately bright room and for moderate action in daylight. I have not yet tested further.

Will this lens work on a Canon EOS RP using an adapter? And does it make a difference that this lens is for APS-C sensors and not full frame in regards to the EOS RP?
Asked by: Rohan
Yes, you can use the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC on the EOS RP using the EF-RF adapter. Doing so will put your camera into 1.6x crop mode and reduce the megapixel count by a significant amount. Due to this, it's recommended that full-frame lenses are used on the EOS RP.
