Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 overview

  • 1Description

A truly versatile lens presented in a sleek form factor, this Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Lens is designed for APS-C format Canon EF mount DSLRs, where it will provide a 28.8-320mm equivalent focal length range. One hybrid aspherical element and one low dispersion element are incorporated into the optical design, and help to reduce distortions and aberrations throughout the zoom range for sharp, clear, and color-accurate imagery. Vibration Compensation image stabilization is integrated into the lens design, too, and helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. Additionally, a DC motor gear train AF drive module is also featured, and helps to maintain fast, accurate focusing performance that is equally smooth and quiet to benefit both stills and video applications. Complementing the expansive zoom range and refined optical design, this 18-200mm also features a moisture-resistant construction to enable working in nearly any situation.

Covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives, this lens is designed for APS-C format Canon EF mount DSLRs and provides a 28.8-320mm equivalent focal length range.
Sleek profile and lightweight design make this lens suitable for everyday and travel photography.
One hybrid aspherical element and one low dispersion element help to control chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range for increased clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy.
A DC motor gear train AF drive module provides fast and quiet focusing performance that is suitable for both still photography and movie recording applications.
VC image stabilization helps to control the effects of camera shake to better enable working in low lighting or with longer shutter speeds.
Moisture-resistant construction helps to protect the lens when working in inclement conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.

    Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 reviews

18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tamron 18 200mm VC lense I have only been using this lense for about two weeks on my Canon 70D. So far I am really pleased with the results. I have a Canon 18 135mm EF lense that I have been using, and realistically I can not see any difference between the Tamron and the Canon. The Tamron lense is providing really nice photos. They are sharp edge to edge, and the colors are good. The VC is great upgrade over the earlier Tamron 18 200mm model lense, and the weather proofing of the new design is also a plus. The lense is a good carry around lense and for the price, it is hard to beat. So far, so good, I am really pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phanomenal This lens is amazing. The 18-200mm goes from a decent wide angle to a telephoto. The autofocus is laser sharp. Bokeh is great, even at 200mm, from f/6.3 to two stops up at f/8.3, perfectly round circles. The vignetting is noticeable and very heavy at 200mm f/6.3, but not a reason not to purchase this lens. At 18mm the distortion is noticeable when looking at parallel lines but this is typical of a wide-angle lens, and not noticeable when shooting normal objects. This lens has replaced my 18-55 Canon Kit lens because of its amazing practicality. I use this lens for landscapes and moderate sports shots. it an everyday lens and frankly phanomenal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens for the price After looking hard at some of Tamron's other zooms (18-250, 16-300), I bought this lens for a trip to Asia because the price point was too good. I have longer zooms so the extra wasn't needed. This lens saved me from hauling a camera bag all over, and the lock was great for walking through crowded markets. As others have noted, the zoom is a little stiff in parts, but it's not a big deal. As for photo quality, I doubt the lens is the limiting factor for me. All in all, the lens meets my needs, which are pretty basic. It will be on my camera a majority of the time for the foreseeable future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Price for a walk-around lens Most of my shots are done with a 400mm 5.6 L series lens but I decided I need a nice walk-around lens for my other camera. I have shot about 100 shots with this lens so far, alternating between a7D markII and a T4i. Auto focus seems to be quick at all the focal lengths but 200mm. Quality of shots is good for a $ lens. Image stabilization is better then I thought it would be ,so all things considered I am happy with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good walk around lens for the money Good built quality at such a low price with moisture resistance built in. It has VR which is better than the previous older version. It is small and light making it ideal for traveling. It also has a zoom lock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp and Clear. Great walk around lens. We have an older model of this lens that doesn't have image stabilization it is a great lens also.. I have a slight tremble in my hands and the IS has made a huge difference in the photos. I highly recommend this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good overall lens, when you need to carry just one. Excellent compromise lens, for those situations where you'd rather use just one lens (e.g., vacations). Be aware that it needs a lot of light for the AF to work properly. In low light conditions (e.g., like the Pacific Northwest in the fall and winter), the AF wanders and does not lock in. In lots of light (e.g., summertime and the caribbean) it works fine. Great magnification factor. Works well for macro, provided there is adequate light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bargain lens! Lightweight plastic build. Good images. Works fine with Canon. Huge range. Great for beginners. Useful for walk around, as my other gear is heavier. Check online before updating Canon camera firmware, to make sure that a Tamron lens will still work.
