Key Features
  • 2 Mic Inputs
  • Improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio
  • Use with Passive Dynamic and Ribbon Mics
  • +25 dB of Clean, Transparent Gain
The Cloudlifter CL-2 Mic Activator from Cloud Microphones is a compact, dual-input solution for common audio problems in the field and in the studio involving low-output passive microphones, including ribbon mics. The CL-2 uses any standard phantom-powered mixer or microphone input device to provide up to +25 dB of clean, transparent gain. This improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs, making them ideal for broadcast, live, and studio applications. The CL-2 is housed in a rugged steel enclosure which offers shielding and durability.

Transparent Gain
Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output and keeps the direct audio path free-and- clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. The CL-2 houses discrete JFET circuitry that delivers clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source

Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter Reviews

Worked excellently for a number of months...

It worked extremely well for a good number of months (WAY less than a full year) but is now, quite unexplainably, a paper weight that threw fatal errors in my open source recording software. I'm at a loss for words, quite honestly. I simply switched from Mac to PC and this thing decided to forget how to work. Very depressing for a $250 purchase...

Excellent investment

The build on this module is excellent! The locking connectors are secure yet easy to use, but most off all the performance and sound quality are worth every penny.

I got this to use with my Rodecaster Pro and Rode Podmic. The difference with the cloud lifter is unbelievable. I would highly recommend this product. I was able to turn down my levels by 10. Very clean sound.

A must-have piece of equipment for anyone who is serious about high quality sound grooming from a stand-alone microphone or lavalier microphone system. Already bought a second one as a backup for my travel system.

Does what it needs to

It makes the audio signal louder. Does it well. Very simple, but very useful. Don't notice any added self-noise. I haven't really tested it, but the audio signal coming in sounds great, and would be far too quiet without this coming from the RDE Podmics. Worth getting.

Boost sound. Built strong.

I'm a beginner to anything sound. Saw this was recommended on YouTube video so I decided to get one. It works fast and easy. It does what it says. It's also feels strong as if it was indestructible.

Glad that I purchased this.

Definitely noticed a difference in gain when used with a SM7B. I thought ahead and bought the two channel version even though I only one one 7B at the moment. No regrets.

This unit allowed me to turn down the gain and lower my noise floor. I have used it now the the ride caster pro and focusrite scarelete solo

Will this boost the signal enough to run a mic ...

Will this boost the signal enough to run a mic into the non amp (line/instr.) inputs on the back of the motu m4 (using the Lewitt lct 440)?
Asked by: Robert
That would not be done with the Cloudlifter CL-2. This only increases the gain of a microphone by 25dB. If you want to go into a line input from your microphone the best way to do that would be by using a small mixer like B&H # MAMIX5 for example.

question

Will the CL-2 Cloudlifter work with/help improve the Sennheiser ew112-p-G3 wireless mic signal-to-noise ratio?
Asked by: Thomas
I would not think so. To improve the noise floor with your Sennheiser ew112-p-G3, try re-positioning the mic and adjusting gain at the transmitter.

question

Is it possible to use only one channel on this? Or will it only be powered if you are using both phantom-powered channels?
Asked by: Nicholas J.
You can choose to use just one channel, or even use both channels separately for different microphones. In order for the +48 to reach the Pres in the box, you have to send Phantom down both lines that you're using: that's to say that Phantom is not shared in the box across the two channels.
