Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-2 Mic Activator
Key Features
  • 2 Mic Inputs
  • Improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio
  • Use with Passive Dynamic and Ribbon Mics
  • +25 dB of Clean, Transparent Gain
The Cloudlifter CL-2 Mic Activator from Cloud Microphones is a compact, dual-input solution for common audio problems in the field and in the studio involving low-output passive microphones, including ribbon mics. The CL-2 uses any standard phantom-powered mixer or microphone input device to provide up to +25 dB of clean, transparent gain. This improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs, making them ideal for broadcast, live, and studio applications. The CL-2 is housed in a rugged steel enclosure which offers shielding and durability.

Transparent Gain
Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output and keeps the direct audio path free-and- clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. The CL-2 houses discrete JFET circuitry that delivers clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source
Useful for a Variety of Applications
  • Use with noisy or low-gain preamps
  • Use with mixers/preamps that negatively impact the sound at higher gain settings
  • Use with low-output dynamic microphones and ribbons
  • Mic softer sound sources such as acoustic instruments and voice
  • Use for long cable runs
Features at a Glance
  • Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output
  • Provides 2 distinct stages of clean gain
  • Easy to use self-contained design requires only phantom power
  • Recommended for use with all passive dynamic microphones
  • Compatible with tube, battery, or power-supply-driven microphones
  • Safe for all passive ribbons with no transfer of phantom
  • Utilizes Patent Pending Class-A, discrete JFET circuitry
  • Ideal impedance loading for optimal performance at 3 kilohms
  • Rugged, road ready, and portable, for studio, stage, and broadcasting

Will this boost the signal enough to run a mic into the non amp (line/instr.) inputs on the back of the motu m4 (using the Lewitt lct 440)?
Asked by: Robert
That would not be done with the Cloudlifter CL-2. This only increases the gain of a microphone by 25dB. If you want to go into a line input from your microphone the best way to do that would be by using a small mixer like B&H # MAMIX5 for example.

question

Will the CL-2 Cloudlifter work with/help improve the Sennheiser ew112-p-G3 wireless mic signal-to-noise ratio?
Asked by: Thomas
I would not think so. To improve the noise floor with your Sennheiser ew112-p-G3, try re-positioning the mic and adjusting gain at the transmitter.

question

Is it possible to use only one channel on this? Or will it only be powered if you are using both phantom-powered channels?
Asked by: Nicholas J.
You can choose to use just one channel, or even use both channels separately for different microphones. In order for the +48 to reach the Pres in the box, you have to send Phantom down both lines that you're using: that's to say that Phantom is not shared in the box across the two channels.
