SLR Magic HyperPrime Cine 50mm T0.95 Reviews
I Like This Lens a Lot!
I'm not a professional photographer, but someone who likes a very distinctive look in their photos. Specifically, I do not like the overly sharp 'digital' look that most modern cameras and lenses provide, but instead I prefer something softer around the edges with a super-shallow depth-of-field and creamy bokeh for the out-of-focus background. I already had the SLR 35mm f0.95 lens and liked it a lot when I ordered this 50mm one, so I had some idea of what to expect. The build quality is excellent; as far as I can tell it's all metal and has a hefty weight to it that inspires confidence. The f-stop and focus rings are silky smooth and easy to operate, and to my hand it feels like just the right amount of breathing room to hunt down accurate focus. With the f-stop open all the way, the image is soft but still in focus. Closing it down sharpens things considerably once you hit f4 or f5.6, but I rarely want to close it down that much as I want that 'dreamy' look. To give you some idea of what it looks like, I have attached a photo of my kitty with f0.95 aperture all the way open. So if you want the kind of sharpness the native Fuji lenses provide, look elsewhere. This SLR lens is great for my needs and I would highly recommend it to anyone whose aesthetic matches my own.

LOVE THESE LENSES
Well made. No plastic. Beautiful image & super fast!
So Far So Good
Great character lens wide open. Excellent stopped down if you want sharper image. Great build. Excellent ergonomics. Highly recommended for its intended purpose.
Bokeh
Heavy lens, well made, with precise controls for aperture and focus. Very good looking on my PEN-F. At f0.95 (in fact f0.92 since it is a T0.95), the bokeh is superb: creamy, foggy, you cannot identify the background if your subject is within the 2 meters range. However, the image is very soft even in focus: it is pretty sharp but with a kind of halo that makes your model loves you: he or she will glow! This is mostly solved at T1.1 and completely at T1.4. From T4.0, it becomes very sharp. With a M43 format, this 50mm has the cover of a 100mm. Ideal for portrait, unique if you keep your subject close, this lens allows a lot of creativity when properly used: the bokeh is somptuous, even better than my Ibelux 40mm f0.85
Loved the 25mm Cine III, but this one is very different
Ive been using the SLR Magic 25mm Hyperprime for over a year and love the lens every time I use it. I was expecting the 50mm to be similar, but the chromatic aberration that Im getting from the lens renders it unusable for video. Seeing that the lens is twice the price of the 25mm, I expected better results. Since Im not reading about this issue in the other reviews, Im guessing that I got a defective lens.
