ikan HF40 overview

  • 1Description

Flexibility is the ikan Helia 40W Bi-Color LED Fresnel Light's strong suit with the ability to set a color temperature between 2700-5600K as well as adjust the beam angle from 15-60°, allowing it to offer both tungsten and daylight color along with spot and flood options. It is able to do this through the implementation of a large 4" acrylic fresnel lens for controlling the light. Also, while it has flicker-free dimming from 0-100%, a special flicker feature enables the use of strobe effects in your images.

A digital readout along with buttons and rotating dials on the side of the fixture allow for full control and ease of use. This setup clearly displays current settings and allows you to make adjustments. Both AC and battery power options are available as the yoke mount is equipped with a V-mount battery plate. Additionally, the light is durable with an aluminum construction and includes barndoors for more control over light placement.

    ikan HF40 reviews

Helia 40W Bi-Color LED Fresnel Light is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent light, but returning it This light is sturdy and solid. Light quality is very nice. I don't love that the color and dimmer dial are the same and off to one side. This makes it awkward to reach and see what's happening if you're on the opposite side. Light output is okay (roughy equivalent to a 200w tungsten unit) so it's fine as a backlight and fill, but in a lot of situations it might be hard to get a softer quality with diffusion and still have enough power. I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from buying this, but it's not quite where our needs are. I'd rather go with a more expensive fresnel led light that has significantly more output even if it's daylight only (it'll still be brighter with a tungsten gel). Just my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile! Let me preface this by saying that I work in Independent Film, usually with tight budgets and small crews. These are my new favorite lights. It's a great affordable option in the LED fresnel category. I usually use these out on location when a generator is not an option. This is sometimes even a better option *because* it can eliminate the need for a genny, (no genny operator needed, no sound pollution to worry about, no distro cables to run). They have a great output for running on batteries (about a 200-250 watt equivalent). While Ihaven't quantitatively tested the throw, I was impressed with how far it reached. As a bonus, I figured out it's water resistant. You don't want to go dunking it in water, but it can withstand getting caught in sprinklers. Again, they're about a 200-250 watt equivalent while only drawing an actual 40 watts. It's not a 500 watt or 1K, so don't expect that kind of output. For what it is, it's an excellent option at a good price.
