Available for download, Joby Burgess Percussion from Spitfire Audio is a performance-oriented virtual musical instrument based on 43,109 samples of a wide variety of orchestral percussion instruments and percussion ensembles. The virtual instrument draws on the sampled material as you play on your keyboard, recreating your playing in the percussion sound of your choice. The performable sounds, sampled by percussionist Joby Burgess, are organized into folders featuring tuned instruments, low & high drums, toy instruments, unpitched metal & wood instruments, metal & wood instruments played with mallets, premade & unmapped ensembles, and timpani.
Close, tree, and ambient mic perspectives can be combined and blended for effectful shifts in focus and depth. Recorded at up to eight dynamic levels per sound, the library ensures a faithful rendition of the instruments' acoustic ranges. Also, the library is sampled with up to eight slightly varying versions of each sound, known as round robins. Each time you hit a certain key a random round robin plays back, giving your virtual performance a lifelike feel. Joby Burgess Percussion captures the beautiful acoustics of the Lyndhurst Hall in London, where it was recorded, and blends seamlessly with other Spitfire libraries. It runs on the Kontakt 5 player, the full version of which is included with the library.
This library uses the Kickstart Engine, which is a Kontakt interface dedicated to percussion instruments. The Kickstart Engine provides a quick and easy way of accessing all the sampled instruments from a single patch.
