The downloadable Evo Grid 1 from Spitfire Audio is the first volume of a collection of tools for the creation of cinematic chamber string soundscapes. The 3324 samples included in the volume tap not only the beautiful, tender, and moving expressive potential of the string section, but also the tense, mysterious, and frightening. Centered around 48 "Evolutions" orchestrated by Ben Foskett and recorded "tutti" across the strings from the bottom of the cellos to the top of the violins, the Evo Grid uses an ingenious grid layout to enable countless possibilities of sound-blending and customizing.
The grid layout is layered into two main instruments: Evo Strings and Evo Strings Warped. Each of the two instruments includes three signal options which can be mixed and blended for effectful sound transformation. The Evo Strings instrument presents the recordings in their rawest, organic form, along with "Tweaked" versions which are the result of composer Christian Henson's modification of the material, and "Ambient" versions which offer a more distant perspective for added depth. The Evo Strings Warped, on the other hand, presents the recordings distorted to varying degrees, where "X" is a time-stretch version, "XX" is a hyper-time-stretch version, and "CV" is warped almost beyond recognition. In each of the grids, each Evolution is available based on each of the 12 keys of the octave, giving you worlds of possibilities. Just pick the Evolutions you want to blend, peg in your choices, and hold a chord on your keyboard to create sonic landscapes which can be anything from minimal and simplistic to awesomely saturated and spellbinding.
In addition to a function which randomly creates peg patterns from the nearly infinite number of possible configurations, there is a selection of grid presets which help get you started by demonstrating different ways of using the pegs across the board. Reverb, delay, and tape-saturation effects as well as dynamics and expression sliders and ADSR control open up further sound-customization possibilities from each of the grids. Recorded dry, the library's samples give you maximum control over ambient effects.
