Available for download, the Deep Sampled Titanium Euphone from Spitfire Audio is a virtual musical instrument based on 13,872 samples of a special percussion instrument which is played by gently stroking resonating glass rods with wet fingers. This instrument, called "titanium euphone," is a commissioned modern version of the "cristal Baschet," and produces haunting lyrical resonances similar to those of its predecessor. The virtual instrument draws on the samples as you play on your keyboard, recreating your playing in euphone sound. Performed by Christian Henson, the samples portray this composer's experiments setting up the resonator cones and steel resonator sheet of the euphone in different configurations. Wobble sliders on the UI give you control over how loosely or tightly the steel resonator sheet is attached to the instrument, letting you create a variety of timbres. For further sound customization there is a dynamics slider which allows for volume modulation within your score, and an expression slider which controls the overall volume.
In addition to sounds played using the standard technique of stroking the glass rods with wet fingers, the library covers sounds played by striking the rods with soft vibraphone beaters, and by rubbing them with a towel. Special effects such as cluster chords and harmonic sweeps showcase further experimental playing techniques. Recorded with a wide array of microphones, the samples capture the euphone's complex resonances from different distances and perspectives. The multiple mic signals can be mixed and blended for effectful shifts in focus and depth, and are also output-assignable for 5.1 surround use. Several dynamic layers per sound ensure a faithful rendition of the instrument's acoustic range. Moreover, the library is sampled with various slightly varying versions of each sound, known as round robins. Each time you hit a certain key a random round robin plays back, giving your virtual performance a lifelike feel. Recorded dry, the samples allow for easy manipulation and in-depth control of ambient effects.
Note: Requires full version of KONTAKT 5
This library uses the Kickstart Engine, which is a Kontakt interface dedicated to percussion instruments. The Kickstart Engine provides a quick and easy way of accessing the euphone's various playing styles & techniques in a single patch.
