Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 Overview

A fast, normal prime designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, the Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. from Panasonic is a 50mm equivalent lens featuring a bright f/1.7 maximum aperture for enhanced low-light shooting and depth of field control. Designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, this lens provides a 50mm equivalent focal length to represent a normal perspective.
Fast f/1.7 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over focus placement for selective focus applications.
One UHR element and a pair of aspherical elements help to achieve even illumination and sharpness for consistent performance throughout the aperture range.
A Nano Surface Coating has been applied to individual elements to noticeably reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Stepping motor delivers fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance to benefit both still photograph and movie recording applications.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.

Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 Reviews

Excellent value

I have always had a nifty fiftylens in my camera bag no matter what format I was using. This lens is fast at F1.7 and very sharp, for the price it's tough to beat.

An outstanding prime lens for the price.

Even at the list price (and I bought it on sale) this is an outstandingly good lens. Even wide open it produces very sharp photos with very little degradation at the corners, and even one stop down is becomes completely sharp across the field. (This is visually, at anything up 300% magnification; I'm sure an optical bench would find some faults, but we mostly take photos to look at, don't we?) The lens is surprising light, but doesn't feel plasticy and the mount is metal. The focusing ring is smooth in action, and has just the right feel. The internal focusing is almost noiseless, as is the diaphragm. Two minor quibbles. 1) I'd happily pay a dollar o r two more for a lens bag. 2) The so-called decorative ring that serves only as a covering for the lens hood bayonet seems an unnecessary item (lens bag instead please!) and is surprisingly difficult to remove, and once off will likely live only in the box the lens comes in. The lens hood, once attached is decorative enough either in reversed position or in functioning position. And the lens is small enough that even with the hood mounted in functioning position, it still takes up very little room in a bag.

I was giving up hope on my Panasonic GH4 which had a 45-105mm f/4. The video quality was very poor and grainy because of the aperture. I wanted to be able to shoot in low light. After much research, I decided to try this lens. It was amazing! I won't be able to list all the benefits of this lens, but it has certainly turned my camera into a great piece of gear. I highly recommend it!

Cheap and high quality

We use both Fuji X and Micro 4/3 lenses for our cameras (zcam, pocket cinema, fuji). I am extraordinarily amazed on the performance of these cheap Panasonic lenses when compared to expensive Fuji counterparts. If you need a good and cheap prime for interviews, that produces nice blurry background, this lens will not disappoint.

Simple all around lens. Good enough for portrait photos and walk around city. Sharp and bright photos. Great budget lens.

Highly recommended budget lens

I think it is the best price-quality ratio lens. Looks a bit cheep, but makes good job.

Worth it for the Auto Focus

I had looked at similar lens that were a little cheaper. None of them had an auto focus (all were manual). I actually went with the lens that had the auto focus even though it was roughly $50 more just so my mom could take some photographs of her grandson. Auto focus saves the day y'all. Exceptional value.
