An update to a classic wide-angle prime, the Canon EF mount SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD from Tamron pairs the versatile focal length with a sophisticated optical layout and VC image stabilization for enhanced image quality. One Low Dispersion element, one eXtra Low Dispersion element, and two aspherical elements help to control a variety of aberrations and distortions for consistent and even illumination and sharpness, as well as reduced color fringing, and eBAND and BBAR coatings work to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity.

Complementing the imaging capabilities, this 35mm f/1.8 lens is also characterized by a ring-type USD motor, which provides quick, quiet autofocus performance with full-time manual focus capabilities. An inner focusing design and Floating System are also used, and aid in achieving a minimum focusing distance of 7.9" with a maximum magnification of 1:2.5. The lens' construction is also notable in its inclusion of various seals to protect against moisture, as well as a fluorine-coated front element to guard against fingerprints, smudging, and water.

A wide-angle prime, this 35mm lens is designed for full-frame Canon EF mount DSLRs, and is also compatible with APS-C models where it will provide a 56mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also avails selective focus control.
One LD (Low Dispersion) element helps to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to achieve greater clarity with reduced color fringing.
Two aspherical elements correct for spherical and comatic aberrations, as well as distortion, for consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination throughout the aperture range, as well as a reduction of sagittal comatic flare.
eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings have been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy.
VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization is incorporated into the lens' design to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in low-light conditions.
Ring-type USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor is employed for fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance that benefits both stills and video recording. This motor also enables full-time manual focus control without having to shift into a dedicated MF mode.
A Floating System is employed that moves a single group of elements to control focus in order to provide faster AF response as well as a minimum focusing distance of 7.9" and maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.5 for enhanced close-up shooting.
Moisture-resistant construction incorporates seals around the lens mount and other areas to benefit working in inclement conditions. Additionally, a fluorine coating has been applied to the front lens element to repel water, fingerprints, and smudges for easier cleaning of the lens surface.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.
SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.0 for Tamron software is included with the lens, which, aside from enabling basic raw processing and image adjustments, works to specifically correct for various aberrations, including color fringing, distortion, and peripheral light fall-off, using dedicated optical data from Tamron's SP-series of lenses.

I love it. Nice construction quality. Nice touch. Very smooth in focus wich create a nice video focus transitions. Amazing in low light conditions. Great value. ( I haven't tried it in photography yet).

Anyone claiming this lens is not sharp, needs to calibrate it, hone their skills, or send it in for inspection. With this lens I am not even tempted by the Tamron 35mm or really any other 35mm auto lens. Not only is it razor sharp with great bokeh, it focuses extremely close. Previously I was on a micro four thirds system using a 17.5mm Nokton which is similar in it's ability to close focus at just a couple of inches, so this led me to this lens. I also have the 85mm tamron 1.8 and had the 24-70 Nikkor F4 S. This lens is easily as sharp as that 24-70 which much more pleasing color rendition and highlight roll off. Only caveat for me is that though I have had no issues with moisture, dust seems to find it's way into this lens way too easily for a weather sealed lens. Though I had my Nokton cleaned twice, it was over a period of 6 years. I have had this lens 9 months, and dust became unacceptable to me after 6 months. It just came back from cleaning, and though it's performance is restored, I did notice about half a dozen extremely fine black spots in the lens. Invisible to the naked eye, but visible with a loupe. It almost looks like carbon lens pen dust.. Tamron has come leaps and bounds with this generation of lenses, but needs to figure out proper dust proofing, and quality control in the clean rooms I suspect. I also bought a 90mm 2.8 G2 macro which I returned because off the straight out of the box it had white styro looking pieces inside the lens, which I have heard others complain about. This became lengthier than I expected.. but to sum up, if you buy it new get it cleaned often while still under warranty. Tamron charges $100 for cleaning (seems high, no?), but as for image quality... Top notch. Attached is a photo, but obviously BandH will not show proper detail, or anywhere near.. wish BandH would get serious about letting people post high quality images so we can make better choices.

I picked this lens up to complement my setup for wedding photography. Particularly, I was interested in the wide-aperture and lightness of this lens. I picked the f/1.8 over the f/1.4 for the lens stabilization which is critical for the handheld video I occasionally do on hybrid shoots (for a much more in-depth review for weddings, check out Taylor Jacksons review on YouTube). The build quality is wonderful and feels as good as my much more expensive Canon L glass. The size is wonderful for a small kit setup. The only downsize I have found is that the chromatic aberration wide-open can be a bit high with a bright background but that hasn't caused any real world issue while shooting.

This lens has a classic film look, with subtle color rendering and smooth transitions from focused to unfocused areas. It reminds me of the 35mm f2 of the Konica Hexar, except that it's not fixed to a quirky camera, has an extra third of a stop in speed, and has image stabilization that really works and permits handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds. It's also very well built. The cons? Being very well built, it's heavy, though it does balance well on my D610. It has onion ring bokeh, which you will have to Google, if you're into out of focus highlights. And it's expensive compared to the Nikon equivalents, but they don't offer image stabilization.

This lens is very sharp and a my new favorite until I gave it actual All day field use. I have the Canon 6dii and the settings freeze including autofocus and not just in live view. It is also not Tap in console ready. I spoke with Tamron before buying the lens and was told the only update necessary would be to make it Tap in ready but I was ok if I am not using the newest cameras. I am very frustrated that a new lens bring sold is not camera ready. I am sure I will be very happy with this lens once updated but now I need to pay shipping / insurance etc.to send this to Tamron for the update for use. Why is this lens being sold. When you buy something new you expect it to work out of the box.

I just received yesterday, and make some tests. I love the touch, the materials, the focus accuracy, the smooth transitions between focus point is great for video, and the great aperture to work in low light conditions, specially in videos.

I spent an unhealthy amount of time deliberating if I should choose this or spend the extra creds for its 1.4 brother, a Nikon or heavens forbid, a Sigma. Boy, I'm glad I went with this. Here's why: 1) It's got a small body compared to the 1.4 Tamron or Sigma. For street or documentary work, you don't want to be walking around with a lens that looks like a Cannon (pun intended). 2) It's got a great build quality that belies its price, weather sealing too! I feel confident enough to take this and my D850 in a bit of drizzle if necessary. 3) The ability to go near Macro is a big win. I don't like too much equipment and the fact that this can do almost as good a job as a macro lens is a big win. I'll likely sell the Macro. 4) The image quality on my copy is great. I've heard some people mention the chromatic aberration, but I haven't noticed it thus far. I suppose pixel peepers may be able to point it out, but these things can be clicked out in post in a second. For my kind of work, if someone offered me the other options for less money I wouldn't take them. This is small enough and practical. I've heard the 1.4 Tamron is a class leader though.

How well does this work with Canon C200? Does the DPAF still work in all modes?

This is an EF Mount lens that will work well on the C200. As far as Dual Pixel AF only Canon EF lenses work perfectly. This lens should still work with DPAF, but it may not perform as well as a Canon lens will.
