Durable and Small
At just 3" long and 1.5 ounces light, the VideoMicro is an unobtrusive companion for your camera. Its ceramic coating mitigates glare and its durable aluminum body aids in RF rejection.
Shotgun Mic with Directional Sound Pickup
Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a cardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound entering from the rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.
Easy Hookup to Camera
A detachable coiled 3.5mm cable is supplied for fast hookup to your camera. The cable is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.
Runs on Plug-In Power
No batteries are required to operate the VideoMicro. Just connect the microphone to your camera or recorder, enable plug-in power on the device, and forget about swapping or charging batteries.
Detachable Shockmount Inhibits Vibrations
Understanding that the rubber bands used in many shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to utilize a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachment to your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (available separately).
Furry Windshield Minimizes Wind Noise
The VideoMicro includes a furry windshield to minimize unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners.
Connectivity Options
Expand the microphone's device compatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4, SC7, and VXLR+ (all available separately). With either the SC4 or SC7, you can connect the VideoMicro directly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLR+ adapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMicro to a camcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.

RODE VideoMicro Reviews

Limited utility as a microphone

I bought this because review videos said it was a good mic for the price. In my experience, in most situations outside of being mounted on the camera and standing 2 feet away it sounds like the mic is still in the box it came in. I tried it with a tripod and teleprompter with the mic under the prompter with me 3-4 ft away and it sounded horrible. More of a vlogging mic where you are holding the camera no more than 2 ft away from you.

Good for the price

I got this mic to use on my canon r6 for a livestream. It sounds much better than the camera audio and considering the price compared to others it is a good purchase

Bought this mic for an outdoor wedding but was worried it would not be able to pick up the bride and groom from the last row, but it performed beautifully with no wind noise at all. Great mic especially for the price.

Works well with Sony a7c

Bought this for my Sony a7c to get better sound quality for shooting home videos of my infant. Has been working great for exactly what I wanted it to do! I use just the shotgun mic around the house. Also took it out on the Colorado plains (Paint Mines near Colorado Springs) where the wind always blows and tried it out with the fuzzy windshield and that worked like a charm as well...no more speaker blasting from the wind when playing back the videos. Great value for my needs - I'm not a pro videographer and didn't need any top-of-the-line audio for my simple home videos, but wanted something better than the camera mic. This fits exactly into that niche.

Does it have dual function for making Filmora videos on a laptop as well as with a camera?
Asked by: Jan
I have only used the Ride VideoMicro as a shotgun camera On my Canon EOS M6. I use the Rode NT-USB for Zoom and other applications with my MacBook Pro because laptop software usually require a USB microphone input. Rode NT-USB has excellent sound quality and I highly recommend it.

question

How do you mount this to a smartphone? Do I need a special clamp? (I have a Samsung Galaxy S5)
Asked by: Anonymous
You need something to accept a shoe mount. You could go expensive with a Beast Grip, or DIY with a simple smart phone tripod adapter and attach a cold shoe to it.

question

The mic is powered by camera plug-in power (min. 3V) so no battery is required. Will It work with Olympus Sema 1 adapter?
Asked by: Karl
The staff answer makes no sense at all. James answer is accurate, the Sema 1 adapter supports plugin power from 1.5v to 10v

question

will this rode video micro work with the Sony hdrcx900 camcorder?
Asked by: Anonymous
Not sure since I don't have a Sony camera. I did test it on my Canon 60D with the included cable and purchased the SC7 RODE cable to use it with my iPhone, it works great with both, camera and iPhone!!I believe my Canon 60D powers up the mic via the cable.
