The detachable coiled 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera, and the dual-mono output means that no channel selection is necessary on your recording device.

Durable and Small

At just 3" long and 1.5 ounces light, the VideoMicro is an unobtrusive companion for your camera. Its ceramic coating mitigates glare and its durable aluminum body aids in RF rejection.

Shotgun Mic with Directional Sound Pickup

Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a cardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound entering from the rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.

Easy Hookup to Camera

A detachable coiled 3.5mm cable is supplied for fast hookup to your camera. The cable is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.

Runs on Plug-In Power

No batteries are required to operate the VideoMicro. Just connect the microphone to your camera or recorder, enable plug-in power on the device, and forget about swapping or charging batteries.

Detachable Shockmount Inhibits Vibrations

Understanding that the rubber bands used in many shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to utilize a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachment to your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (available separately).

Furry Windshield Minimizes Wind Noise

The VideoMicro includes a furry windshield to minimize unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners.

Connectivity Options

Expand the microphone's device compatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4, SC7, and VXLR+ (all available separately). With either the SC4 or SC7, you can connect the VideoMicro directly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLR+ adapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMicro to a camcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.

What distance from your subject will give you the best sound quality?
Asked by: Alexander
The optimal distance for recording will vary depending on the environment and whether or not there is a significant amount of background noise or when outdoors, wind can make a big difference. When recording outdoors, you may need to be closer to the subject compared to recording indoors. You can use headphones to monitor the audio while recording to make sure that the sound is clear.

Will this work with a standard 1/8" jack on a computer for recording sounds (i.e. as an external computer mic)?
Asked by: Benjamin
I can't speak to computer use, but I have tried it on a Tascam recorder and it didn't work. I can only assume that this is because there's no power supply and power is coming from the device. It works great on my Nikon D7500 and D7100.

Yes the Rode video micro will sound better then the cameras internal microphone, this is a directional microphone it will pick up less background noise as well for being directional, stay between 3-5 feet from the subject for better sound quality.
