Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-PRO-5 overview

  • 1Description

The UAP-AC-PRO-5 UniFi Access Point Enterprise Wi-Fi System from Ubiquiti Networks is a scalable enterprise access point solution designed to be easily deployed and managed. It supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard with speeds of up to 1300 Mb/s in the 5 GHz radio band, and up to 450 Mb/s in the 2.4 GHz radio band. The Wi-Fi system offers simultaneous dual band operation with 3 x 3 MIMO technology for each band. It has a range of up to 400' and two Gigabit Ethernet ports. This UniFi Access Point (AP) has a sleek design and can be easily mounted to a ceiling tile or wall, using the included mounting hardware.

The Wi-Fi system includes UniFi Controller software that can be installed on a PC, Mac, or Linux machine within the network, and is easily accessible through a standard Web browser. Using the UniFi Controller software, an Enterprise Wi-Fi network can be quickly configured and administered, without any special training. Real-time status, automatic UAP device detection, map loading, and advanced security options are all seamlessly integrated in the system.

UniFi AP

Save Money and Save Time
The UniFi AP comes bundled with a non-dedicated software controller that can be deployed on an on-premise PC, Mac, or Linux machine, in a private cloud, or using a public cloud service.
Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO Technology
The 802.11ac MIMO Technology offers Gigabit speeds and range up to 400'.
Intuitive UniFi Controller Software
Install, configure, and manage all of the UniFi APs with the intuitive and user-friendly UniFi controller user interface.
Expandable
Build wireless networks as big or small as needed. Start with one or more and expand to thousands, while maintaining a single unified management system.

Controller

UniFi Controller
Use the UniFi controller to provision thousands of UniFi APs, map out networks, quickly manage system traffic, and provision additional UniFi APs.
Analytics
You can use the configurable reporting and analytics to manage large user populations and expedite troubleshooting.
Guest Portal/Hotspot Support
Easy customization options for guest portals include authentication, hotspot setup, and the ability to use your own external portal server. Use UniFi's rate limiting for guest portal/hotspot package offerings. Apply different bandwidth rates (download/upload), limit total data usage, and limit duration of use. The UniFi AP includes hotspot functionality. It includes built-in support for billing integration using major credit cards, and built-in support for voucher-based authentication. It also includes a built-in hotspot manager for voucher creation, guest management, payment refund, full customization, and branding of hotspot portal pages.
Multi-Site Management
A single UniFi Controller running in the cloud can manage multiple sites, multiple, distributed deployments, and multi-tenancy for managed service providers. Each site is logically separated and has its own configuration, maps, statistics, guest portals, and administrator read/write, and read-only accounts.
WLAN Groups
The UniFi controller can manage flexible configurations of large deployments. Create multiple WLAN groups and assign them to an AP's radio.
Maps
Upload map images of your location for a visual representation of each wireless network.
Statistics
UniFi organizes and visualizes network traffic in clear and easy-to-read graphs.
Extend Your Coverage
With the UniFi controller software running in an NOC or in the cloud, administrators can extend and centrally manage the wide areas of indoor and outdoor coverage, using any combination of UniFi APs.
Easy Mounting
Sleek wall or ceiling mount design (all accessories included).
Design
It has an industrial design with an LED provisioning ring or square, which provides administrator location tracking and alerts for each device.
Power over Ethernet (PoE)
Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable to the device. The unit can also be powered from the Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch PoE PRO (sold separately).

Please Note: PoE Injector sold separately

    Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-PRO-5 reviews

UAP-AC-PRO-5 UniFi Access Point Enterprise Wi-Fi System (5-Pack) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased Again by the UBNT Team We have deployed UniFi across 11 sites so far. The first site we installed has some UAP-Pro units that are hit hard all day long, 5 days a week. We decided after about 2 years use, we would upgrade to the new AC units. The 2 year old UAP-Pro's are still functioning 100%, they are just being replaced due to upgrades. At this point we have 62 UniFi APs and I will be going onsite in about 2 weeks to install 6 more at a new location. UniFi doesn't fit the build for everybody with specific requirements, but it does deliver exceptional wireless service at a disruptive price point. I feel these CAN work for about 90% use cases. It just takes time to design and plan your site accordingly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Access Point Switched from Cisco WAP371's to the UAP-AC-Pro. Excellent WAP with great speed and reliability. Allows setting of DTIM and beacon intervals to optimize iOS performance (beacon 50 ms, DTIM 4) to prevent missing WiFi calls, multicasts, etc. UBNT is working on implementing 802.11k and 802.11r which should allow seamless roaming. Can't wait for this feature! Units look nice mounted, and you can disable the LED.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Access Points! These access points are so much faster than the previous generation, both for throughput and provisioning speed. There is much less downtime when you provision or reboot the access points. They are easy to install and setup. I've installed dozens of these, and am very involved the UBNT community. UBNT listens to their customers and implements new features in their open source controller software fairly quickly in their updates. This model uses industry-standard 802.3af PoE, which is also a huge plus over the first generation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unifi Is Best Wireless I've installed a number of these access points for my client's wireless projects. Performance, stability and price are outstanding. Configure access points using the Ubiquiti Controller software, an Ubiquiti hardware controller or cloud site. All 3 methods have the pluses and minuses. If you use the software, be SURE to backup your controller configuration. If you don't you run the risk of losing configuration capability, meaning you'd need to hard reset access points and start from scratch. That's a pain if the access points are mounted 20 feet up. A hardware controller is best for security but adds cost. And as much as I get the convenience of the cloud, I prefer 'owning' the configuration capability. But once you've got these baby's configured, they are rock solid. Setting up multiple VLAN'd SSID's takes a little homework, but these access points are up the task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Meraki Replacement As a test we replaced all our Meraki access points at our Middle School with UAP-AC-PRO access points. We saw a definite improvement in coverage and a decrease in dropped connections. I was able to configure these APs identically to my Meraki setup. I am now purchasing enough of these to put an access point in every classroom in our school district. I'm a fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic WiFi AP's These things are awesome. I've done a couple of small projects with these (such as put one in my house for whole-house coverage) as well as a church. Got this 5-pack to install at another location. Note the 5pack does not include the POE adapters, and the single packs do. These guys have gotten the WiFi package down for inexpensive and full featured wifi!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy setup and deployment I found setup was straight forward with the exception of setting up a guest network. I preconfigure several units in the office at a time. Identifying and labeling the unit is easy once configured by clicking the identify button in the console. The only support Option I have found so far is via Chat or email. This is a little concerning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working well with 300+ regular guest users We moved from SonicPoints to the Unify AC access Point for our church. There were some mysterious issues with connectivity at first, but when we moved off of our older Cisco switches to Unify switches that all cleared up. So far 150 days of up time and hundreds of guest users later and they are still working solid.
