ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/2 Overview

A standard, bright wide-angle prime for the Nikon F mount, the Milvus 35mm f/2 ZF.2 from ZEISS utilizes the Distagon optical design, with one anomalous partial dispersion element, to produce well-controlled imagery with reduced chromatic aberrations and distortions. A floating elements system is also used to achieve consistent performance, even sharpness, and clarity throughout the focusing range. An enhanced ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to markedly reduce lens flare and ghosting for working in trying lighting conditions.

The manual focus design is complemented by a rubberized focus ring for fine-tuned, precise control over your focus position. Additionally, Milvus-series lenses also feature an equally aesthetic and durable frosted, anodized metal lens-barrel surface along with a weather-sealed construction to protect against dust and moisture

Wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 aperture helps to achieve a more compact, portable form factor while also remaining versatile for use in a variety of lighting conditions.
Distagon optical concept affords high sharpness, well-corrected image quality from edge-to-edge, and very low field curvature.
One anomalous partial dispersion element is used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 11.8" to infinity.
Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.
Manual aperture ring has clicked indicators throughout aperture range. Using the included De-Click Tool, this ring can be mechanically 'de-clicked' for smooth, silent rotation throughout the aperture range; making it ideal for video applications.
Weather-resistant construction includes internal seals to guard against dust and moisture as well as a blue sealing ring at the lens mount to protect the lens-camera interface.
All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Is this lens fully compatible with Nikon FE? (will it allow using it in A mode)
Asked by: JONATHAN
Using this lens in full manual mode on the Nikon FE would not be a problem. However, it may not work in Auto mode.

question

What would be a better option for portraiture, This Lense of the canon 35mm 1.4 ii? (Ps I already own a 85mm)
Asked by: Milan
When used with a full-frame camera, a 35mm focal length is a modest wide-angle lens and is well suited for environmental or group portraits. When the same lens is used on a camera with an APS-C sensor, then it behaves like a 'normal' focal length and is suited for head-and-shoulder portraits.

question

I'm wondering whether to go for the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC and benefit from its AF and VC or to get the Zeiss Milvus 35mm f2 distagon. I use the D800e and own the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. I am looking for a prime lens with this focal range, i.e. the 35mm, to use for street photography, and really don't want to carry the weight of the 24-70. I don't mind a manual lens and I am more inclined to get the Milvus, but it's also around 650g and I'm not sure if the manual focusing will stand in the way. So Tamron vs. The Milvus? Thanks. One more thing, if you think the Milvus is a better option, should it be Milvus or the Zeiss classic f2 zf2 diatagon?
Asked by: Walid
Hi there,I am a big fan of the Milvus Zeiss Family. My latest purchase which is from B & H is the Milvus 35mm F2.0 which is used for portrait and street photography to me this is a gain for a lense that is tac sharp point to point. I have no regrets over my purchase and please allow me to put you at ease on the manual focusing which is fast and accurate as I am using the Nikon D810 to pair up with the Milvus 35mm f2.0. This lense is light and worth carrying around. My advice to you is to get the Milvus and not the Classic ZF2 Distagon because the Milvus are considered the next generation of new lenses produced by Zeiss with better coatings and newer technologies to reduce flare, ghost and also barrel distortion. The Bokeh produced by the 35mm f2.0 is fantastic. Last and not least the 35mm f2.0 is also weather seal. You will not regret buying a lense with so many positive comments with a plus.Laurence

question

I have a Canon 6D, I know there is the EF mount version of the milvus, but I really like the manual aperture nikon mount offers for this lens. If a buy an adapter nikon to EF canon, would the image be affected (In a negative way)? Or it is best going safe with the EF mount version but not having the manual aperture feature? Hope somebody can help, thanks.
Asked by: Christian O.
I would not recommend trying to adapt Nikon mount to a Canon EF mount with Zeiss lenses. The ZF.2 is not native to Canon. Too many things can go wrong like your adaptor can fail suddenly. If the reason you want a manual aperture ring is for video, I still don't see the point as switching apertures during filming is not very common practice.

question

Hi, I have nikkor 24-70 f2.8 and I am wondering if there is a clear and basic difference between this lens and my nikkor for upgrading
Asked by: Hossein N.
I have the 24-70 also, but I love Zeiss lenses for their clarity and color rendition, + I wanted a prime for landscape photos, and Zeiss is the best. I own all Nikkor lenses except for two Zeiss, the 35, and a 100 macro. Love them both. A lot of control with manual focus. Build quality is superb.
