Rokinon 21mm f/1.4 overview

  • 1Description

Combining a wide-angle perspective with a fast maximum aperture, this 21mm f/1.4 Lens from Rokinon is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 42mm equivalent focal length. One extra-low dispersion element and a trio of aspherical elements are incorporated into the lens construction, and help to control aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and also enables greater control over focus placement, which is further complemented by the manual focus design and rounded nine-blade diaphragm to produce a quality of bokeh. Additionally, an Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to all lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in harsh lighting conditions.

This 21mm f/1.4 lens is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 42mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is ideal for working in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over your focus position for selective focus applications.
One extra-low dispersion element and three aspherical elements are incorporated within the lens design and help to control chromatic and comatic aberrations, as well as reduce color fringing, for sharper, clearer imagery.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to all lens elements in order to suppress lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy.
This manual focus lens has a non-rotating 58mm front filter mount to better enable the use of polarizing, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning. Additionally, its internal focus design maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.

    Rokinon 21mm f/1.4 reviews

21mm f/1.4 Lens for Micro Four Thirds (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great normal prime for Micro Four Thirds This was one of the first lenses I bought for my GH4 and it's been one of my most used. Renders beautiful colors and flares (if you're into that sort of thing), is wonderfully sharp even wide open, and has a very responsive and smooth focus ring. It's a beast in low light, which makes it especially useful for Micro Four Thirds shooters. A really nice normal prime focal length, especially when paired with the GH4, as this lens comes out to about a 48mm full frame equivalent with the 4K crop. So if you're coming from full frame system with classic 50mm f/1.8 setup, you'll feel right at home with this lens. The body is a metal frame with a tough plastic exterior. It feels well built and and sturdy, and it's stood up marvelously to about a year's worth of consistent use. The construction on all the Rokinon lenses I own has been solid, and I definitely find it better than the all-plastic builds of the budget Panasonic and Olympus lenses. The only real downside some may find with this lens is that it's fully manual. If you are predominantly a video shooter like me, this probably isn't a huge loss, but some photographers may find it unideal. In addition to being fully manual, the focus ring also does not hard stop at infinity, going a few degrees beyond it. So that's important to keep that in mind if you want to use this lens for landscape or astrophotography work. This issue is pretty common on lenses in this price range, and I still prefer a manual ring to wire focus when it comes to trying to nail focus on distant objects. Whether you're a photographer or videographer, this lens has a lot to offer, and for the price it's tough to beat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as good as Rokinon 12mm for nightscapes I own the Rokinon 12mm f/2 and the Rokinon 50mm f/1.2 and both are very impressive lenses. Sharp and fun to use and both are capable of nice astrophotography shots (nightscapes) as well as amazing daytime shots. I was hoping this Rokinon 21mm f/1.4 would be similar, but I tried two samples and was just not satisfied with the coma at the edges and corners of the frame. But I'm pretty critical on this topic. I do believe that users would be very satisfied with the lens for daytime photography and cinemaphotography.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unscrews almost too easily It can come unscrewed pretty easily which can be annoying, but otherwise it does what it's supposed to do.
