    Google GA3A00093-A14-Z01 reviews

Chromecast (Black, 2nd Generation) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 250.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Didn't expect the mandatory video ads I like the Chromecast, but I was surprised that it started playing video ads on my TV while it was turned on but I was not casting anything, and these ads also had sound, so they were not easy to ignore. I like the pleasant photographs that serve as a screensaver and leave the TV on as a sort of digital photo album, but the sudden blaring of an ad's audio is a dealbreaker. Searching online, there are many others complaining about the same thing, and some of the video ads are quite long (basically infomercials). I am okay with watching ads while I am actually consuming video content to support the content creators, but while I am not actually consuming video content, pushing ads in my face and ears is not welcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, great service from B&H I bought this product for my parents (and got one for myself with the double pack). At the time there was a bonus rebate from google for $ play dollars.Works great to stream from supported apps like Netflix. Picture looks better than PS3 streaming.Picture quality is better using my phone (Nexus 5x) than my iPad 2. I'm not sure why that is, but there was a noticeable difference. My girlfriend noticed the difference and sometimes she doesn't usually care about picture quality. This is much better than an apple tv, imo, and much cheaper. If you absolutely need amazon prime video, this product isn't your best bet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easier to setup than previous model! This is my second Chromecast. It was easier to set up than the first one. Google changed the mobile app from Chromecast to Google Home (important because that's the smartphone app you need to set everything up). I followed all the on-screen instructions (both, from TV and app) and everything worked fine without issues -- unlike the first unit I bought last year. I hooked this Chromecast to my treadmill's built-in TV, so I can now stream wirelessly from my smartphone while exercising and watch YouTube, Netflix, or Hulu at the same time. Google designed a great product with this and B&H shipped it super fast!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super pleased I'm super pleased with this device. At first, I thought it only broadcast a limited set of media - web pages such as YouTube. After some exploring, I found I could cast (broadcast) my entire desktop and so any app would be up on my 55inch TV. I later found I could also cast from my smartphone and thus project screens for smartphone only based apps. Still exploring but for $30+ it's a hit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful with google home I didn't understand the point of these chromecasts until I got google home. My TV's are already smart and have netflix and prime. However, I got a bunch of google minis and now these chromecasts are quite meaningful. I just tell the minis what I want to watch and on which TV and they start it up--even TV's with chomecast "built in" are not real chromecast and don't take commands from google home. Also very useful: this allows me to turn off my TV's with my voice. Probably worth it just for that. I hate tromping upstairs to turn off the kids' TV, for example. I still don't use it for most of my netflix watching, but I occasionally cast stuff from my phone and I always use it to turn off my TV's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade for the original CC1 This is an upgrade for my main Chromecast in the living room, I picked it mainly for the improved network performance as I had few issues with the first gen. Chromecast when handling high-bit rate video's.. it made me convert them for lower bitrate in order to see them perfectly. The new design is a departure from the old one, thought not remarkably better, some might see it worse actually... I like it personally from the perspective of a change, but practically it doesn't add anything unique, in fact the HDMI cable seems to get some stress from being used to hang the Chromecast it self, it's much thinner than the original extender cable in CC1... Performance wise, it's awesome, I didn't have any stutter like before, and the overall experience still mostly the same ( don't expect like new software functionality ), out of the box you only get online streaming capability, but you can easily install 3rd party application so you can play your local contents... I tried both AllCast and LocalCast, and I settled on the later duo to better UI and experience... I still see it better to have an ethernet port, I don't know if the Ethernet port adapter will work in the new CC2 or not.. but for the time being.. Wireless AC standard is pretty much good for my needs the upgrade does not add support for additional formats, so still no HEVC / x265 support and no 4K support, maybe Google wanted to save 4K support for another variant duo to cost concerns

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The first generation chromcast was better This 2nd generation ChromeCast looks a bit cooler than first gen but I don’t like that it has to be always used with a wall socket for power. 1st gen ChromeCast had both usb power as well as standard wall power option which is nice as when using usb power the whole thing can be hidden behind tv. 2nd in terms of setup of ChromeCast and user experience it’s pretty bad. I had 2 of these already and this is my Third ChromeCast for my tv in patio but it’s not super obvious what are the right step to setup a new ChromeCast. The app to setup takes you to google home main app and at that point it’s a bit confusing. I would expect there were clearly described steps for folks who had never setup one of this before

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm trying to convince my wife to buy more While this came as a free item when I bought Google Home, this is actually where the magic happens. Having my most used apps available directly on tv has been fantastic. For newish televisions that come loaded with inferior network connection, this is a must have. At $30-35 it's really a no-brainer. Controlling with Google Home or using my phone as the remote, it's worked almost perfectly. My only knock against it is Google Photos/videos don't stream sometimes, and it's uses are dependent on me the user. I'm still finding cool and unexpected apps I can use with the Chromecast.
