    Tascam VL-S3 reviews

    VL-S3 14W + 14W 3" Powered Studio Monitor (Pair, Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sound great for their size I was pleasantly surprised at the sound and over-all volume level of these speakers. I am mainly using them as portable computer speakers, but they sound really, really good, and I have taken to using them as mix monitors (switching back and forth to my KRK Rockit 8's). Pretty scary how loud these little things can get, and the amount of bass is impressive (for their size obviously). You can't go wrong for the price on these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful clarity, sound at this size and price point I bought this as a portable speaker to use for video editing when I am away from my edit station. I am generally wary about cheap speakers audio quality is very important for me. B&H had it on sale for $50, so I read the reviews and figured it was low risk for editing at least dialog. So I turned it on expecting very little and was blown away! It has great mid and top end clarity and the bottom end is quite decent given its small size. It does not sound harsh or metallic like cheaper speakers. You can even use it to listen music while working. At the $50 it is a no brainer. I have not heard any speakers at the $100 price point, so I am not sure how it compares.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad warranty Bad electrical bad speakers I purchased these speakers January 2017. They sit on my desk. Last month, they just stopped working. The power turns on but neither input is working. I spoke with TEAC and TASCAM about warranty and it would cost the same amount of money to have the speakers fixed as the speakers are worth. It's crazy that their warranty for parts is included for repairs but not labor. I will not be buying from TASCAM ever again. Their customer support is pretty bad. These aren't worth it if they're going to give out on you like they did to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tascam Never Disappoints I wouldn't expect anything less from Tascam. The build quality is great and the speakers sound great. They are small studio speakers compared to others but don't let the size fool you they still have a nice deep bass and highs. I connected these to my iMac and oh what a difference it has made in my video editing. Would highly recommend these since they hold their own along others in the same price category.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic small monitors! I don't do any video or audio editing, but I rebuild speakers as a hobby and feel I have a decent ear -- these little guys sound great! I prefer monitors for near-field listening (like on my computer desk) as I find the flat uncolored sound to be applicable to a broader range of audio, video and gaming media. These particular Tascam's aren't as flat as a higher-end monitor like the Yamaha HS series in my opinion, but the Tascam's are *very* close to neutral/flat. I think the design of the rear port moves these speakers more towards a solid desktop/computer speaker system rather than true monitors, but dang are they very close! To re-iterate, I'm no audio pro but I'd bet that you could get some fine work done with these. I got this item open box for $50 and they are an absolute *steal* at that price. For $99 I may have considered other options (such as the prolific M Audio AV's or Mackie CR's) but I'm really glad I didn't. Compared side by side with the Mackie CR3's, these Tascam's have clearer highs a more resounding and fuller bass and really just a more pleasant curve across the spectrum (like I said, I don' think they are fully all that flat!). Bottom line, for $99 you can't do much better. If you can get 'em for $50 then you've just made off like a bandit!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for the price but NOT for prime time work So they are small but lack any semblance of base. Bright is The operative word. I was hoping to replace my old M-Audio DX4s with these but that was NOT a good idea. My 8 year old speakers still have a better range but..these are small and are not horrible. especially if you have the ability to EQ your sound before it gets output them. But there is one truly STUPID design element....the volume knob is on the back. So be sure you can reach that from where you instal them. If I had paid full price I would have returned them. As is, they are now my iPad speakers and for that, they are fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regret-should have gone bigger I wanted these to be bigger sound, but not take up space on my desk. You can't have it all. They are not that loud, but loud enough for the little time I'll use them. I use my normal speakers to power music from my iPad while I work, and sound from the computer. I switch to these Tascam 3 speakers when recording VO through the Audient iD14. They have the accurate sound I wanted, but would buy bigger next time. These were in my price range at the time, yet I should have saved my money up and gone bigger. The ASP3001 are using my desktop real estate anyway. Measure twice, purchase once...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Those Who Work With Audio. Tascam means Professional Audio. These are Not for casual listening, because they have a Flat Response across the audio spectrum. If you Work with Audio, and have a small workspace,Buy Them.In a near field desktop workstation, they get Plenty Loud!.So loud, that if you put your hand over the tuned port you can feel the bass as blasts of air.The Tascam VL-S3 are well built, and look great. You will be able to hear your audio as it really sounds.Been doing business with B&H for many years, they've never let me down.
