Epson SC P7000 Standard brand new with bad print head

By Mike

Upon receipt, packaging was immaculate, printer not damaged, however only four of the eleven channels actually printed on the test page, the other seven did not have any ink in the lines at all. Called Epson, and they sent out a Decision One printer tech, who replaced the capping station, and a couple other pieces of hardware, and then lastly replaced the print head. Turns out around four or five seals on the print head were bad, see the picture. So, I give this three stars right now, it literally ate up the 110ml starter ink cartridges trying to get ink through the lines after the initial charging of ink failed. The tech had to put in more cartridges to do another charging of ink and continue with heavy cleanings to actually have all nozzles working as expected and new. Also, this wasted the new maintenannce tank right of the bat with all the wasted ink due to bad print head. I will be using this P7000 a lot before my B&H return date passes due to this very troublesome new printer issue upon setup. This P7000 replaced my Epson 7900 which had a bad print head (two channels mostly clogged permanently), go figure!?!?!?

Love this printer!

not as good of color profile as the 7900, however, it is much more reliable and therefor saves on paper and ink.

Amazing printer, but not inexpensive to operate...

This printer does a superb job using good paper and Epson inks. I am very happy with the quality of the product it produces. The cost of operation is, however, extremely high. To purchase a full set of inks in the 700 ml configuration was $500 more than the cost to purchase the printer! I agree with most everything prior stated - it is important to print at LEAST a nozzle check every day, if not a print. Still, this printer is quite a robot, especially at this price point. Maintenance is minimal so long as it is used. I'm just an individual photographer who does this for fun, so I won't wear this thing out. That, however, does not work to my advantage with a printer that needs to be walked every day. It is a great printer, especially for the money. I will pay the exorbitant cost of the ink to have the quality this printer produces.

I recently upgraded from p600 to this printer and I could not be happier. Colors reproduction is accurate, although I have to be a little careful with B&W prints when it comes to brightness. It is fast, reliable, solidly built printer that prints everything I throw at it.  Maintenance: I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is to print a nozzle check every 2-3 days to prevent clogging. Let is sit idle for 4-5 days and you will get a clogged nozzle!  This is something to keep in mind if you are not printing as often, and clearing nozzle clogs wastes a lot of ink.

This an amazing printer

This an amazing printer. I print mainly on Epson Hot Press Natural roll paper and the results are gorgeous. I rate it at 4 stars because the build of the machine is not as good as my old 7900 and the ink is too expensive...but its the resulting prints that count most.

This printer is wonderful. We've had it for about 5 months and so far it's been smooth sailing. We had a bit of some trial and error with printing full bleed images, but Epson's support center was super helpful. The color is spot on, and detail impeccable. While ink is expensive, so far it's gotten us through a LOT of prints. (The printer comes with a set of starter ink, which lasted us about a month.) I can't believe it took me so many years to stop outsourcing gicle prints - this thing is a beautiful beast and I'm so glad we took the plunge!

It's a great upgrade!

I should have gone to a smaller printer 2 years ago but decided to wait. So when I saw the P7000 I was really like the design if it. It's easy to use and the option for the color violet at setup stage was very interesting, I only thing about it it weight more then my old HP44 printer and I had to hire a moving company to get to the second floor. but it was worth it!

I recently bought the commercial edition rather the standard ed. I have not received the printer yet, but I’m planning on returning it to swap it out. Are there any physical differences between these two printers or can you use a commercial edition as a standard edition?

How many cut sheets will it hold? I understand it will auto feed most of the fine art paper. I have the 3880 and have to manually feed these now.
Asked by: Matthew
You would still need to manually feed each sheet of paper. There would not be a paper tray to hold single cut sheets

How many prints can be expected to get out of the 350ml cartridge?

That is not something that can be easily calculated, as it can changed if you are printing B&W vs Color and the different sizes. But over time your system can tell you how much ink was used after a print.
