Epson P9000 overview

  • 1Description

Realize the full-potential of Epson's large-format lineup with the Commercial Edition of the SureColor P9000 44" Inkjet Printer. This unit incorporates the latest PrecisionCore TFP Print Head and PrecisionDot Screening Technology along with an eleven-color UltraChrome HDX pigment-based ink set with auto-switching black ink technology to produce vivid, brilliant images at a finely detailed resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi. Also, the Commercial Edition utilizes a Violet ink that allows users to produce up to 99% of the Pantone Formula Guide for solid color matching, immensely useful for accurate package proofing.

This model can handle both cut-sheet and roll media up to 44" wide and can produce large, panoramic prints up to 529" in length. The P9000 is also capable of working quickly, producing a 16 x 20" print as fast as 2 minutes 2 seconds. PrecisionDot Screening technology furthers the printer's quality by using advanced math to calculate dot size and placement using a variable-sized droplet system. Also, users can manually program print head cleanings to ensure optimal performance at all times.

Operation is simple with a top-loading feed for both rolls and cut-sheet media. There is also a built-in rotary cutter for automatically cutting prints from rolls and the front control panel has a 2.7" color LCD screen for checking print status and settings. Additionally, it has both USB 2.0 and Ethernet connectivity for setting up the unit as you need it.

    Epson P9000 reviews

SureColor P9000 Commercial Edition 44" Large-Format Inkjet Printer is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Differences from the old stylus pros We just received this printer after upgrading from the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 series and have a few frustrating encounters. First is the commercial edition. The violet ink is nice, but disables a few features in the print menu, such as the ability to change the ink to grayscale or all black (important for us as we also use this printer to print films for exposures and the light blacks and colors tend to burn out). I have been told that this may be possible under the standard edition, but cannot confirm. Another change is the loss of ink and paper usage in the onboard printer menu. If you need to track these, Epson has offloaded these features to an amazing piece of software, the LFP accounting tool. Unfortunately, this has not been written for a Mac yet, so you have to have a PC workstation available to track on. You do not have to print from it if you are using the Epson driver for printing as the driver captures the data and the LFP pulls from that, but a PC is the only way to view that info now. Also good to note that an empty ink cartridge will completely lock you out of the printer until it is replaced, even if it is the black cartridge you don't have loaded at the time. Like the old printers, if it needs more ink to clean and you replace the cartridge, save the old cartridge and put it back in after cleaning. It still has plenty of ink left to print with. Otherwise it is an extremely capable printer and prints beautiful images consistently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MISGUIDED REVIEWS The only negative reviews on this are from people that don't know how to operate a large format printer. These printers don't like down-time. It causes clog issues. The more you use them, the longer they last. If your studio has downtime, at least print a nozzle-check every 3-4 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and high quality machine We've used this machine for over a year with great success. It needs to be taken careful care of, but if you treat it well it can produce very fine quality results. We're very happy with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please be cautious after my experience with this machine I printed just 225 pages in total in 14 months and now July 2017 the printer is broken.
