With four separate drive bays and the ability to house up to 32 terabytes of data, the Diskstation DS416 4-Bay NAS Server from Synology can house your important documents, photos, HD movies, videos and more. The installed hot swappable drives can be configured into a variety of RAID formats including Synology Hybrid RAID, Basic, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10 to suit your specific storage needs.

Stored files can be accessed quickly and efficiently thanks to the dual-core CPU and 1GB of DDR3 RAM ensuring smooth system performance. Dual fail-over Gigabit Ethernet ports support a data read speed of up to 221.05 MB/s and data write speed of up to 139.51 MB/s. In addition to the integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports, you can also connect additional USB compatible storage devices to the DS416 making it easy to transfer files to and from thumb drives and external hard drives.

Running on Synology's own DiskStation Manager software the DS416 is easy to configure and manage. Along with the intuitive operating software, you can also choose from a wide variety of task specific applications to better manage your network settings and files. File sharing apps include Windows ADS, Windows ACL, User Home, File Station, and DS File all designed to cater to the administrative aspects of your NAS server. With Mail Station, Mail Server, VPN Server, and RADIUS Server you can tweak your network settings such as security options LAN configurations, and more. Cross Platform File Sharing
Comprehensive network protocol support assures seamless file sharing across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. Windows ADS integration allows the Synology DS416 to quickly and easily fit in an existing business network environment with no need to recreate user accounts. Windows ACL support provides much finer-grained access control and efficient privilege settings, allowing users to enjoy native Windows experience. The User Home feature minimizes the administrator's effort in creating a private shared folder for a large amount of users.

Internet file access is simplified by the encrypted FTP server and the web-based File Station. HTTPS, the built-in firewall, and IP auto-block support ensure file sharing over the Internet is protected at a high security level. For users who are always on the move, Synology provides a handy app, DS file, for popular mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad, Android devices and Windows Phone. Anything stored on the Synology DS416 can be accessed remotely using DS file.

    Synology DS416 reviews

Diskstation DS416 4-Bay NAS Server is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits the bill plus discovered benefits We are a design and photography studio. We use this disc station primarily as a repository for shared work between 2 users, archived work, and Time Machine backups. Also, instead of keeping files on 2 machines with relatively small SS drives, we keep our working files on it as well. If I'm out on location I have access to everything without dragging a drive along. Now we're setting up an attached drive to act as a Time machine like backup for the working files. This replaces a Mac Mini running as a server, along with a bunch of drives rotated for storage and backup. This was a happy surprise. It also replaces an old method of archiving, which was writing to DVDs and cataloging with Portfolio (which is no longer supported in the version we have). With all the added space (4 4T drives (12T), symbology proprietary raid= 8T useable) were bringing the DVDs onto the NAS. Easily viewable in Bridge. Images can be linked to a Lightroom catalog. Everything is so much easier

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I purchased this 8 months ago and it is working flawlessly. I upgraded from an earlier 4 bay Synology and it went flawlessly. I even upgraded hard drives later and that was perfect as well. The only downside is that using the Monitoring capability requires an exact browser configuration to watch the camera videos, of which is very hard to setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great inexpensive NAS for media storage I was between this and the QNAP offerings at a similar price. I needed something that allowed easy and relatively fast back-up of my graphics, photos, and videos files. I sprung for the Synology based off of reviews noting its awesome setup and GUI/apps. It definitely has an easy setup that walks you through every step, the great GUI helped me setup auto back-up in 10 mins on my local machine, and I'm getting on average 111MB/s transfer over a 1gbps LAN with RAID 5 configuration (max theoretical 1gbps ethernet speed in MB/s is 125MB/s, so not too shabby!). This is just fast enough for quickly transferring compressed HD video to a local PC RAID and backing up a project as I edit in premier pro. Highly recommend this NAS! NOTE: invest in quality NAS HDDs from Western Digital, Seagate, HGST, or similar to avoid losing your data and to achieve the top possible speeds. I went with the HGST 6TB NAS drives in a 3 HDD RAID 5 config and they are working great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great addition to my home The first thing that struck me was how quiet it is. That was a concern because I don't like constant fan/disc noise in what is normally a quiet room. The other thing is that it basically built itself using a Synology version of RAID-5. It took about a half day for it to complete the parity check. I went with four WD Red 2-TB NAS hard drives giving me about 6 TB of disc storage. The dual gigabit NICs are connected to my wireless router/switch. Oh, during the build it asks for a name for the unit which becomes the server name. It has its own OS which is very easy to use and with it you can set up accounts and file shares - my preferred way to use it. You can move files through a web browser (very good documentation on it) but, it's not as fast as a mapped network drive, \\servername\homes\newaccout\sharename . Yes, as you can see, its roots are in the Unix flavor (no pun intended.) Actually, I'd like to get another one - maybe the 2.5 version, the DS416slim. I'd use the same drives but in the 2.5 format.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy setup and use, decent performance This is the third Synology NAS I have purchased, and all of them have worked well. I purchased this one to be a dedicated surveillance unit (running the Surveillance Station app). It seems work very well for that purpose. I have four 1080p cameras running at 30 fps, each on their own powered CAT5E cable from a Netgear 8-port switch. I loaded it up with 4x 1TB hard drives and can record all four cameras continuously for 14 days before overwriting anything. Motion detection is easy to setup as well, and it will send push notifications to an app on your iOS or Android device. I'm knocking off 1 star because the fans make a faint but noticeable rattling noise. You can't hear it unless you're in a dead-quiet room, but my other Synology units are absolutely whisper quiet. This one is slightly noisier. The noise from the fan is certainly not objectionable, but I returned the first unit, thinking I got a bad one. The second unit I received makes the same noise, so I assume it's a design issue or poor fan supplier choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! I a familiar with Synology as I had a diskstation from 2010, so upgrading to this unit was a snap and it is working just fine. I highly recommend it!
