Epson P400 reviews

SureColor P400 Inkjet Printer is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've only had this printer for just about a month and printed less than ten photos. But, of the photos I have printed, they look great and, I've used 8.5 X 11 Metallic Glossy and the Velvet Fine Art Paper as well as the 13 X 19 Cold Press paper. Loading was easy (haven't tried multiple sheets yet) and the printer itself is relatively quite. I anticipate more use of the printer as I get ready for a photography show this June. So far, I'm happy with the printer and the color(s) it produces. I can't wait to see more of my photos. Oh...I'm technology illiterate and I was able to set this printer up myself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Printer, but is missing a key feature I have to admit, I've only been printing on the Epson Photo Gloss Paper for photos and proofs, so I haven't given this printer the true test with other different kinds of papers, but I am very please with the prints, especially when you use the Gloss overprint feature. It makes the photos look great. I do have one request for Epson. It would be great if they could include or offer printing calibration software. I've been struggling for weeks now to get the prints to look like whats on screen. I've calibrated my screen and bought third party software to calibrate the printer, but still having issues. Calibration for the home user would be a great feature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid product The SCP-400 is a big improvement over earlier iterations of the 13-inch desktop photo printers (1200, R1900). Handling of thicker papers without smearing is almost perfect. The pigment ink cartridges do not require the almost daily usage that the previous models required in order to keep the print heads from clogging. I have been able to leave town and come back a month later and use the printer without having to spend hours to days and much ink to unclog the heads. The warmer colors are especially vivid and accurate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great photos, especially for the price This is my second Epson photo printer. This is the first one that's a professional printer. It has a lot of features for the money. The ability to print from a roll of paper will make for nice "framable" photos which will save me money. 8 ink cartridges really make a vivid color photo. I look forward to many years of dependable service. So far it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great Bought as a replacement for an Epson R1900 that finally had a print head fail after many years of use. This printer is very similar but more quiet, efficient and faster. Mainly used for graphic design, not photos. Didn't need the extra black range of the P600. The output is sharp and has great color, even on non-Epson fine art paper.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Colors do not print accurate Colors are not accurate. Have used Epson printers for design and art prints for over twenty years. The older models (2200-3000 series) were easier to manage profiles and colors were accurate. This P-400 sure color model is a pain. The gloss optimizer kicks in when not selected and it is very difficult to set the profiles to match the gamut or color range for color proofing in cmyk illustrator files or photoshop. I've spoken to several colleagues in my industry and they have the same complaints. Plus my first model was defective and replaced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The printer does print very well in photo paper. I mostly need it to print on non-Epson 80# matte paper. Some of the colors (like orange) are not as bright as my previous R1900 printer. It has too much black in it. I wish Epson made 80# Premium Paper... When I use Epson Premium Paper, the colors are gorgeous. Epson was very good in customer service when I called about printing lines and the paper printing a bit sideways. They took it and gave me another printer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Printer - Bad Roll Paper Attachment I have previously owned a 1400 which I replaced with a Artisan 1430. The 1400 gave out because of ink flow problems. It was not an easy job to clean and as a result I ended up in upgrading it to my new Artisan 1430 about a year ago. My purchase of the SureColor P400 was because of the added features of two additional ink cartridges and the roll paper feature. I am pleased with the printer however I have not been able to produce any prints superior to what my 1430 produces. The roll paper attachment is worthless to me. It is a real problem to attach and feed properly. I purchased two rolls of paper which are now in the trash. The printer is very particular as to having the paper so perfectly fed. The feeder is mounted too close to the printer and thus creates a very difficult situation to adjust the paper. It is very difficult to reattach the feeder after you detach it in order to adjust the paper. Very frustrating indeed.
