    HP M477FDN reviews

Color LaserJet Pro M477fdn All-in-One Laser Printer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Color MFP from HP - Quick and Quiet This was purchased to replace an aging LaserJet Pro M1536dnf MFP that stopped working due to scanning bulb failure, after providing several years of reliable service. That being said, this is my 7th HP LaserJet over the years (4 black and 3 color) and like all the others, this model doesn't disappoint. Unpacking this MFP and setting up the hardware could not be easier. After taking the printer from the shipping carton, remove protective packing tape from a few plastic panels and the screen protector, attach the power and network cables, add paper and you're ready to go. There isn't any need to pull out the toner cartridge drawer or even remove protective strips from the 4 toner cartridges. However, as others have cautioned in the reviews here (and elsewhere for the fnw and fdw variants), there is a plastic strip affixed to the far left side of the scanning glass that must not be removed. Software installation is a snap using the Easy Start utility available as a download from the HP website. It took around 30 minutes to install this MFP for three Apple iMacs (running OS X 10.11 and higher), including the download time for the drivers and associated utilities. (I really don't understand why others have mentioned that the software installation is problematic.) This MFP unit weighs in at a somewhat hefty 51.2 lb, although it is reasonably compact (16.4 in. W x 18.6 in. D x 15.7 in. H) for its print / copy / scan / fax / email functionality. The rated engine speed (28 ppm letter size, black and color) seems accurate, as does the first page out (ready) times: 8.9 seconds for black and 9.8 seconds for color, although it does seem to be much faster. Print quality is extremely good for both text and graphics (black and color), as is output from the scanner. Noise levels are very low when operating, whisper-quiet when in standby (ready) mode, and absolutely silent when the machine enters the sleep state. The 4.3 in. touchscreen color graphic display (CGD) is intuitive and easy to use; no user manual required. The printer settings may also be changed via the embedded web server utility (See photo below.), as an alternative to using the printer CGD. What's really nice is that this utility allows you to configure other items not available in the control panel, such as the color calibration timing intervals and power-on calibration (including disabling this if desired). On the other hand, the embedded web server lacks other advanced features as for higher-end HP color lasers, such as the LaserJet Enterprise 500 Series printers. Some examples: (1) User access is unrestricted as there is no password protection, and (2) There isn't a setting to restrict color output (i.e. for some computer applications and/or by user or group permissions). A word of caution... be sure to enter the primary and secondary DNS addresses (IPv4) if you configure the M477fdn manually with a static IP address. Otherwise, the machine will not be able to access the Internet and the HP ePrint feature will not be available. Please refer to other photos for overall view, control panel, pull down Tray 1 and toner cartridge / drawer assembly. You can't go wrong with this HP MFP model, since it has just about everything (except native 802.11 WiFi capability). Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Machine Fast and easy setup. I've had other HP all-in-one machines before, but this one out paces them all. I really appreciate the letter option in the front cover.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, but tree weaknesses All-in-All a good printer, it is working fine and the software / firmware are ok (not like the previous HP one I had, HPC L2840, which softwares were full of bugs). But I found 3 problems with it : 1) cost of toners remplacement, I know it is high capacity, but it is still too expensive 2) a little tiny detail : the ON/OFF diod is blinking when the printer is standing by, I checked, and there is no way to turn that off, that is a pity. I am a self-employed consultant and I sleep at the office from time to time, I can assure you that it is boring when blinking. I just turn the printer off. -Last but not least, a major conception issue : when you want to scan a magazine, or a book, and you open the book / magazine at the page you would like to scan, the monitor location is really not convenient (first picture). Also, it could have been turnable (on a pivot), but no, it is not. Only solution is to pull up the scanning window (2nd picture), and that also means you need to specify the source (else the scanning will fail because it will try on the feader)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good and BAD PRINTS REALLY WELL- but, it will NOT stay connected to network, I rebooted it 15 times yesterday and sometimes it stays connected and most ofthe time It cannot be found- issues with fax connection and scanner too- copies well, have to scan 1 page at a time- this thing is overall horrible

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice printer For The Money So far a nice multi-function printer, smaller and faster than my last Brother MFC. The only draw back is I wish it had a larger volume paper tray instead of the 250 sheet tray.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Where's the Auto Duplex? It's advertised as auto duplex printing, the features include auto-duplex printing, BUT THERE IS NO AUTO DUPLEX PRINTING! Even the user's manual indicates there is only manual duplex printing and the setup options indicate only manual duplex printing. If you need auto duplex printing, LOOK ELSEWHERE! Otherwise it works well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer with Average Scanner As far as printing goes, this MFP is excellent. The copier/scanner, on the other hand, is average at best. Resolution only goes to 300dpi. My old HP MFP, which this replaced, went to 1200dpi. The old MFP produced scanned documents, which were better than the originals. Often the clarity of the scanned image/document with this new MFP leaves something to be desired. Since my primary use for this MFP is double-sided color printing, I am still happy overall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from terrible printing Recently got a gift from a friend for new office. Can't believe HP has such a terrible product. When using USB drive to print, it looked like only printing stuff in English, although the interface could be set to many other languages. If trying to print stuff in other languages, the machine made some noise like normal printing and show printed but nothing came out at all. Then I tried to use USB cable included, same thing. Non English stuff could not be printed at all. Even an Excel sheet in English could be printed (saying not enough memory) until it was saved as pdf file first. The firmware was updated to 20160921 version. Still no help. Another problem is even there was no job, the touch screen showed "cancelling printing" for ever. Also no way to make print only in black and white. Computer connection only can have up to 300 dpi scanning resolution. This machine has cost me hours just to get more and more disappointments. Hopefully the problems are only with this machine. I definitely would ask my friend to exchange it first. If still same situation, definitely would ask to return.
