LensCoat LCN200500DC reviews

LensCoat for Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens (Digital Camo) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Protection for a Big Lens After I ordered this lens I discovered some of the challenges it presented. First, it does not fit in any of the camera bags I own. It is hand-holdable for a short time, but I expect I will usually use it with a tripod outdoors. This product covers the lens using 5 precut pieces of neoprene plus a separate piece for the hood and an extra piece to cover the extension of the lens when it is fully extended. All the controls are accessible as well, there are windows over the VR and Focus limiting switches as well as the distance scale. Given that this lens extends when zoomed, LensCoat has come up with a thoughtful design that affords some protection from the elements as well as insulation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fine but not Great The individual LensCoat segments are cut to fit well and do not shift during handling. I feel confident that the covered areas of the lens are protected from the sort of scratches and bumps encountered during normal operation. It is not a suit of armor and will not save you if you drop your lens, nor was it meant to. I subtracted two stars for the following reasons: 1. $90-$100 is steep for a bit of cut neoprene. I paid the premium to avoid needing to construct my own. 2. The lens switches are difficult to toggle through the clear plastic window. I will likely cut the plastic out. Likewise, the hole for the zoom lock is too small to see which position the switch is in. However, operation of the switch is not hindered. 3. If you photograph subjects that may require sudden zooming, the LensCoat section for the portion of the lens that appears when zoomed to 500mm is useless. You cannot zoom out without first removing this section.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Lens coat used it for a Nikon 200-500mm/5.6 lens. at first sight upon opening the packet it felt like pieces of camouflage material - the picture sheet solved it!! i laid them out on the table and it was a piece of cake thereafter. The lens looks GREAT with the new coat on!! Definitely a great protective gear and GOOD LOOKING TOO!!! Immediately took it for a test run - the zoom lock window was a bit off and small too! and so was the clear window for the distance and f stop. !!! after a few attempts i got used to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Added protection for that expensive lens I purchased the LensCoat for a Nikon 200-500 mm telephoto lens to protect the investment while anticipating a lot of jostling on an upcoming Kenya safari. The neoprene will give an added layer of protection while in the vehicle and the camera bag. The pieces are cut exactly and fit snuggly. It’s my hope that the camouflage pattern will help break up the lens image when pointed at wildlife although I know the majority of the intrusion will be from the reflectivity off of the lens surface. I also bought one for the Nikon 28-300 mm telephoto. This one has a minor tendency for the piece closest to the lens mount to slide off due to the curvature of the lens base.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice padded lens coat I bought this for my Nikon 200-500 partially for protection and also for camouflage, I like to photograph birds and wildlife, and the camouflage vs a black lens really does make a difference, especially with birds. The lens coat comes with easy to follow instructions for putting it on the lens and has very thoughtful construction. They include a sleeve for when the zoom is extended to 500. This was an investment, a little pricey, but really good quality and meets my needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't hold up! I bought a LensCoat in black for my Nikon 200-500. I thought it would offer some protection from minor bumps and scrapes. And while this is mostly true, the product doesn't hold up! After less than a year of use, the section with the hole for the lens lock shredded, leaving just a few fibers of the nylon covering holding it together, and the stitching in another section was coming undone. And because the cut edges of the neoprene are left raw, any rubbing causes the nylon to shred. I contacted LensCoat (by email since they post no phone number) and apparently they don't warranty the lenscoat beyond 3 months. If I cared to replace any sections I would be charged $7.50 for each one. For the price of the product I expected a great deal more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from LensCoat for Nikon 200-500mm I had hoped for something more like a sheath to protect from blowing sand and rain than multiple bands of rubber. It should work to protect your hands from heat and cold. This product is way over-priced.
