With the EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro for Nikon, Elinchrom introduced a game-changing wireless solution that's compatible with three generations of transceivers and flash heads and offers Hi-Sync flash sync speeds up to 1/8000 sec.

The 20-channel transmitter is immediately recognizable by its large LCD screen that displays every light in your setup. The Skyport Pro will control the modeling light and flash intensity of BRX, D-Lite RX, ELC Pro HD, and ELB flash heads as well as the EL-Skyport Transceiver RX for the Style RX, Digital RX, and Ranger RX systems. Operating on the 2.4 GHz frequency, it has an enhanced wireless range too, triggering and controlling your flash heads at a distance of 196' indoors and 656' outdoors.

One of the transceivers most exciting features is Hi-Sync technology that lets you use shutter speeds up to 1/8000 of a second, far shorter than your camera's standard sync speed. Whether you use it to overpower the sun, freeze action, darken backgrounds, or select wider apertures, Hi-Sync opens up a new realm of exposure possibilities. You can even fine tune the transmitter's trigger signal with ODS (Over Drive Sync) for optimal exposures at high shutter speeds.

The EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro runs on AA batteries and has a future-proofing mini-USB connection for firmware updates.

Visual Feedback Interface
The large LCD display of the Skyport Pro features two-way control via a Visual Feedback Interface that lets you see the exact power of every light in your setup right on the transmitter. Users control each light's power level and modeling lamp setting directly from the Skyport transmitter, which instantly shows the updated power settings.
Hi-Sync Technology
Go beyond the X-Sync of your camera. Photographers can simply switch to Hi-Sync mode and access sync speeds up to 1/8000s to freeze motion, overpower the sun, darken backgrounds, or use a wider aperture. The new ODS (Over Drive Sync) enables users to fine tune the Skyport plus HS transmitter's trigger signal to optimize exposure at high shutter speeds while gaining up to two more f-stops of light.
Impressive Wireless Range
The Skyport Pro has 20 frequency channels that can be used for either Normal or Speed mode, and a wireless range of 656' outdoors and 196' indoors. It also features a mini-USB socket for firmware updates. Users can instantly distinguish what sync mode they are in since the backlit display glows green for normal sync mode, and red for speed sync mode.
Compatibility
The Skyport Pro represents a seamless extension of the EL-Skyport family since it is also compatible with the three previous generations of flash units including the EL- Skyport Transceiver RX module for Style RX, Digital RX, and Ranger RX systems and the integrated EL-Skyport modules for the BRX, D-Lite RX, ELC Pro HD, and ELB series. The Skyport Pro adds synchronization capability and two-way control functionality to all Elinchrom lights with EL-Skyport capability.
LCD Display
The LCD display shows each strobe unit's power settings and allows for full control of all strobes right on top of the Skyport Pro. The individual strobes show up automatically on the screen, and you can adjust the settings on top of the transceiver or on the strobe itself. You can see and control up to 10 different EL strobes with the HS transmitter.
AF Assist Light
The Skyport Pro also includes an autofocus assist feature to help cameras focus in low light situations. This avoids using the flash unit's modeling light which drains battery power.

Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro Reviews

A must for an Elinchrom setup

Works well with all my Elinchrom lights, I also purchased the Skyport Bridge, and run the Elinchrom studio software on my computer (and I shoot tethered) so now I can control/modify the power for the lights all from my computer (or phone) easily. Highly recommended!

Works great on my R5

I love this EL-Skyport Transmitter for my Canon R5. It easily connects to my Elinchrom 500HD lights and fires them on command.

Reliable if not a bit awkward

I recently switched from Canon's RT system because I was having intermittent failures with the ST-E3-RT and my 600EX-RT's. The best theory put forward was that they were suffering from RF interference and, after being interrupted twice during a paid gigs, I decided I needed to try something new and picked up this transmitter and a pair of ONEs. I was very anxious to know if Elinchrom would perform any better and I had a nagging doubt that they'd use the same radio frequency bands and be just as vulnerable. However, after reading the manual, it sounds like the older Elinchrom units are the only ones that share frequencies and maybe newer units can use a different range that might be less vulnerable. I've shot two gigs now with this transmitter, one shoot at the same location I'd had a failure before, and I'm pleased to say that I've had no such problems. If it continues to be as reliable it was a worthwhile upgrade. As far as interface goes, it's still a bit clunky -- 7 buttons and a wheel only give you so many user-interface options and it isn't always as smooth as I'd like. I can chalk some of this up to my own Canon muscle-memory though and maybe I'll just get used to it. One feature I love: test-fire in TTL, then switch to manual and it starts at power settings that were used for the TTL shot. My old Canon transmitter never did this and it's a great feature. One feature I miss: the transmitter can't relay color temperature information to the camera like Canon's can so AWB doesn't work -- you have to switch to manual temperature and guess where temp should be based on how your lights behave at different power settings. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's a feature I definitely miss. Gripes aside though, if it's reliable, it's infinitely better than what I was using before.

Usefull but ... fragile

Very usefull. Full control of the flash. When you go over 1/200 shutter speed, by himself flash are in HSS mode, so nothing to do. But... the part which go in the hotshoe is fragile. I broke it and there are not spares pieces for this. Needed to rebuy it.

Good - could be better.

I'm on the Elinchrom system. The remotes work well, but there are areas that I feel like could be improved. Specifically at events they do drop signals on a constant basis, and often I'll have to turn the skyport off and back on to get it to find the flash(s). That might not be so bad, other than it feels like an eternity (when you are in the midst of shooting wedding formals), for the Skyport to to find the flash. The other area of improvement is the layout. For some reason, the interface is a bit confusing to my brain and it took me a long time to understand it. I'm a Canon shooter, and the Canon flash layeout is WAY more intuitve to me. Lastly, if you use the lock function (so you don't bump settings), you have to hit it once because it turns on the modeling light. And then the second time you hit and hold it turns of the modeling light and then lock the setting. Again, not a deal breaker, but for the quaility of strobe I wish the transmitter was a little more refined and user friendly. Also, I did have one skyport go bad in less than a year. The dial just got super wacky and stopped working . . . that was a bit of bummer, and maybe I just had a slight lemon. My other controller has been going strong. The pro's when it's not dropping, the TTL works really great. And I'm a big fan of the TTL setting and then beging able to switch to manual and have the last TTL setting saved.

I love it!

question

I have impact 400w strobes will I need the ELS universal speed receiver to sync my strobes?
Asked by: Derrick W.
That is a transmitter. If you want to use that one you will need a receiver as well. The Elinchrom EL-Skyport has additional features that will only work with specific Elinchrom lights. With impact lights I would just use a traditional wireless sync. Some of those are listed below and the ones I am listing are kits with a receiver and transmitter.

question

Will this work as a commander for SB-R200s ?

Unfortunately, this would not work as a commander for the Nikon SB-R200 flash. The commander unit that you would need is the Nikon SU-800 which is shown below.

I shoot both Nikon and Fuji. I am only interested in the high-speed sync on the Nikons (and I don't need TTL on either system), so if I got the Nikon-compatible model for that purpose, could I use the same unit to simply fire the flash on a Fuji camera?
Asked by: Nick
Yes you can fire the flash with Fuji camera and the trigger only manual
