Dracast Fresnel 200 overview

  • 1Description

Part of the expanding line of Fresnels, the Dracast Fresnel 200 Daylight LED Light has the same quality features as its larger siblings like the Fresnel 2000, but in a smaller lighter package. Ideal for working close-up where less power is needed, the Fresnel 200 offers 0-100% dimming locally and high output with extremely low power draw and virtually no generated heat. This means that no fan is needed and the light runs dead quiet - an important feature in sound-sensitive environments. And the output has a very high CRI rating of 95 thanks to Dracast's use of Cree Surface Mount LED, meaning faithful rendering of colors down to the most subtle tones. The LED 200 is built on a sturdy aluminum alloy housing and comes with a mounting yoke and 4-way barndoors.

    Dracast Fresnel 200 reviews

Fresnel 200 Daylight LED Light is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I can recommend but...... Just got these in. The build quality is rubber/plastic. One of the ballast has a short in it. Going to return or see if BH will just ship out a new ballast. (They are closed for the holiday) The bonus LED panels are a nice treat. It's nice having the extra light. The light is not super bright once you diffuse it but it is great for shooting portraits at small aperture. If it wasn't for the bonus light I would probably consider returning them for the Lowell LED's which are close in price. Good light, not sure how they will hold up in the long run because of the build quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from DON'T BUY - WASTE OF MONEY The light itself was pretty good. Silent & low power draw. However, after shooting with it mounted on a light stand for one day, the copper wire connectors in the wall plug tore out, and the light stopped working. I chatted with their customer service team on the Dracast website, and they told me since it wasn't a craftsmanship issue from their side, I would need to order another AC power cable shipping in 4-6 weeks. You buy cheap, you buy twice. Find another brand that sells better quality. I once supported Dracast, but now I'm moving on to more reliable lights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance for the price Bought two of these as fill and backlights for shooting solo music performances in a smaller space. They give a lot of value for the price. Pros: light is able to be focused or widened and is dimmable, which is very useful. The angle of the head is easy to adjust and tighten, and the barns doors rotate easily and stay put when you open or close them. The light is plenty for a back or fill light on someone from 10-20ish feet away with my blackmagic camera at ISO 400 f/2.0 in an otherwise dark room. The housing seems fairly durable and isn't too huge or anything. The simplicity makes this quick to use. The light looks clean and nice in my shots. It's just what I needed which is why I bought a second light right after testing the first. Cons: the dimmer control knob is fairly cheap. When you try to turn it all the way off, sometimes it doesn't quite go far enough, like the potentiometer in the dimmer box isn't very high quality or calibrated well. The dimmer knob box is in-line with the power cord and hangs awkwardly a few feet from the unit in line with the power cord, so that when the units are on my tall light stands, the dimmer knob box hangs several feet off the ground, which probably puts strain on the cord (and might affect the connection eventually) and clunks/swings awkwardly against the light stand. The dimmer box and cord feel kind of cheap. The power cords are very short so you'll need to get extensions if you have tallish stands. Also the plugs on the end of the cords are not heavy duty: you can see that the cord wrapping isn't attached to the plug and that the bare wires are visible at the end where the cords goes into the plug, if you bend the cord. Basically, this isn't expensively built or designed for super heavy duty use, in my opinion. Summary: Perfect for light indoor use and small to medium spaces. Good value and looks great. The light itself is great. The power cord and dimmer box are cheap and might not hold up under heavy use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't do it. We ordered 2 of these for work. While the light is great, the controller is made out of the cheapest plastic possible. When they WERE working they barely were able to turn the light on and off, but then they both stopped working within a couple of weeks of each other leaving us with 2 lights and no way to turn them on or off. Unless they upgrade the controller box I don't recommend buying these lights, they're a total waste of money.
