    Microsoft PD9-00003 reviews

Surface Dock is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, convenient dock option. I had thought about Microsoft's stand-type dock for my Surface Pro 3, but I figured it took up too much desk space, especially since the Surface already has a stand built in. This little block has a footprint of 5 x 2.5 (13 x 6cm), and weighs a hefty 1lb 4oz (570g). The bottom has a non-skid cover. It has a separate power brick, and all connections with your Surface (power, USB, Ethernet, video, audio) are handled by a single convenient plug that goes where your power plug fits. Too easy. Won't go through all the ports as these are listed in specs, but note you will need to supply your own cables for external monitor, speakers etc. Video on a 24 LED monitor looks great, and for the best desktop experience you should add a full-size keyboard and separate pointing device. This Surface Dock is a clever, elegant solution for quickly changing your Surface Pro to a true desktop device.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work with dual or single external monitors Unfortunately I could not get this dock to work with dual external monitors or even a single monitor for that matter, even after trying the fixes recommended on Microsoft's website. My surfacebook screen would just flash between black and the desktop and/or freeze up with a blue screen with a bunch of weird symbols. When I hooked up a single monitor directly to the surfacebook (not using the dock) the external monitor works just fine which tells me the problem lies with the dock. The ethernet and USB ports functioned as expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Instant transformation to desktop, but clunky. This dock is great if you want to transform your Surface Pro into a desktop. Just attach the magnetic power cord, and -- bam! -- all the connections are made. However, what you don't see in any of the illustrations of this product is another power brick, the size of the dock itself. So you basically have a train of two black boxes. You plug in a cord, it leads to a big power brick, then the cord runs a good length and you get the Surface dock. So it's clunky and somewhat unwieldy, and not at all good for travel because the whole package is surprisingly heavy. But you can't beat it for a one-connection transformation from mobile tablet/computer to desktop machine with multiple monitors, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great accessory I was initially hesitant to purchase this product do to some mixed reviews. As with many reviews you sometimes have to read things into the reviewers objectives for the product. I found this item to be easy to install and it provides for most of the needs that I have. I am using this with an external monitor which was one of the issues that popped up on a regular basis. The key here is to purchase the right cable which is the mini display to HDMA. I am amazed at the quality of the picture on my monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and well-made Note this is NOT the former Surface Pro docking station. It is instead two bricks connected by a cord; one being the transformer and the other being the dock itself. The dock has a non-skid bottom that stabilizes it on desktops and facilitates plugging in accessories and staying in place where you put it. Has many inputs and outputs, including several USB 3.0 ports sufficient to simultaneously run external drives and to charge devices such as mobile phones (charges them fast too!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What I needed A nice step in allowing the Surface Pro to have attributes of a full computer. I take the Surface on photography trips for quick editing in the down hours. At home the dock allows me to easily plug in a 27 monitor, speakers and other USB other peripherals. I leave them in the dock and when I'm on a trip one simple connection frees up the surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Necessary If you want to use dual displays, this is the way to go. Had to download the latest software for the Dock. Was confusing at first... why did not the new Dock have the latest software? But works beautifully.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine, a bit heavy Works as it is supposed to, looks robust. The joined power supply is the same size and heavy, makes the total docking station bulky & heavy. Not for travel.
