The M15 TR Thermographic Network Camera from MOBOTIX is based on the modular MOBOTIX platform. The modular camera consists of a housing, front element, and a thermal sensor module with thermal radiometry technology. The thermal sensor comes with the LB119 lens preinstalled that has a 25° horizontal field of view.
The housing includes integrated camera electronics, flash memory, external ports (Ethernet, MxBus, and mini-USB), and pre-installed VarioFlex mount for wall or ceiling mounting. The front element accommodates the thermal sensor (right module), an optional optical sensor module (left module), microphone, speaker, passive infrared sensor, outside temperature sensor, and status LEDs. The camera comes with connection cables for the sensor and network.
The thermal sensor has a temperature measurement range of -40 to 1022°F (-40 to 550°C) and is capable of detection in complete darkness and/or through smoke, smog, or a thin plastic film (limited during thick fog). In addition, the calibrated thermal sensor can measure the temperatures in an entire image or in measurement windows and the camera software can trigger an alarm if specific temperature changes are detected. The left module can be a 5MP day (color) or night (black & white) sensor, telephoto to hemispheric, with or without long-pass filter (LPF) for identification.
Thanks to a combination of an array of sensors (PIR, microphone, thermal sensor) and analytics capabilities of the camera software (MxActivitySensor, video motion detection, event logic), the camera can detect moving people & cars, and their direction of movement, even in total darkness. The different display options of the thermal image sensor (off-color/black & white) add to the existing possibilities for analyzing and using the generated images.
The built-in MxActivitySensor software is an activity-controlled image analysis tool for detecting movement of people and objects in a monitored area (full image or section). It is designed to be easy to configure and deliver reliable results, even in applications with large amounts of external interference. For example, the camera distinguishes between movements of vehicles, people, or objects that trigger an alarm and movements that are not relevant for alarms, such as shadows, changes in illumination, trees swaying in the wind, or rain directly at the lens. In combination with the thermal image sensor, it is possible to block out disruptive factors like regular movements of cold objects such as bushes, grass, water, clouds, or waves.
When a 5MP sensor is added to the system, even fast-moving objects can be identified without motion blur. When light intensity fades, e.g., during dusk, the MOBOTIX Lowlight Exposure Optimization (MxLEO) shortens exposure times to deliver crisp images. The M15D camera is certified according to IP66 and can withstand a temperature range of -22 to 140°F. It does not require additional cooling, heating, or a special housing.
This modular system can also be reconfigured or repaired by replacing a sensor module using the special tools shipped with the system. In addition, if only the thermographic image is needed, the included dummy module can be used in place of the 5MP sensor module (for the camera to remain IP66-rated weatherproof).
The camera software is pre-installed, so it is ready for use without any additional configuration. The camera is suitable for video security applications in commercial, private, and public sector environments, as a surveillance or weather camera, indoors or outdoors, day or night. This camera operates with built-in firmware allowing remote access from Windows and Mac computers via a web browser, or using the free MOBOTIX app for iOS.
