Maxon BodyPaint 3D R17 is a comprehensive application for creating advanced textures and unique sculptures. It consists of select features of Maxon's CINEMA 4D Studio R17, assembled to provide a concentrated painting solution for all your 3D painting needs. Full support for tablets allows you to paint with a pen as you would in popular 2D editors. BodyPaint 3D can deal with image files as large as 16K and with 16-bit and 32-bit color depth. R17 (Release 17) introduces new spline tools (Pen, Sketch, Smooth, Arc, Boolean Commands), new take system, new color chooser, sculpting enhancements, a global material override feature, and a completely reworked content library.

A distinguishing feature of BodyPaint 3D is its focus on hassle-free texturing. You're able to quickly paint highly detailed textures directly on your 3D objects. BodyPaint 3D offers a large selection of brushes, selection tools, filters, erasers, and other editing tools for texturing, and it additionally supports Photoshop .abr brushes. Another outstanding feature is a large set of sculpting tools that let you turn a simple object into a detailed work of art. A major outstanding feature is projection painting mode, which eliminates the need to spend hours creating perfect UV maps. You get to simply paint what you would like to see on your 3D model, apply the projection, and then BodyPaint 3D will quickly adjust your painting so it fits your UVs perfectly -- even if there are differing UV sizes and seems.

BodyPaint 3D was created for all 3D artists and includes free plug-ins to connect with 3ds Max, Maya, and Softimage. Other applications can exchange files with BodyPaint 3D using one of the numerous available file formats (e.g. OBJ, FBX, or COLLADA).

New Features in BodyPaint 3D R17

Take System
The new Take System goes beyond the functionality of a regular Render Layer System, offering flexible scene management offered by the Take System. Create numerous independent takes of your scene and change almost any parameter for intuitive variations -- all saved in one scene file eliminating file management hassles and wasted disk space. Nested parent-children take relationships let you easily hierarchize your versions, while the new Token System takes care of the file naming headache when rendering multiple takes in one go. Maintain complete versioning and variation control while saving precious time exploring all possibilities and responding to client change requests.
New Color Chooser
Color your 3D world using a color wheel, photo reference, screen picker, customizable swatch library, or one of many color models. Simplify any image using Photo Mosaic mode and quickly generate color swatches from a photo. Pick out harmonies in a way that will really complement your scene. Your colors highly enhanced.
New Spline Tools
Working with lines is now a lot more intuitive. Manipulate points, lines, tangents, and arcs with an intuitive user interface. Convert to polygon shapes. Leverage Boolean operators like Intersect, Subtract, Union.
R17 Sculpting
New sculpting improvements.
Material Override
Generate clay renders with just a few clicks of the mouse using the new Material Override. Replace all or only selected materials from your scene with a basic material with an easy and intuitive workflow. You can also exclude specific channels such as transparency, alpha, displacement, and others from the material override, if desired.
Updated Content Libraries
Updated with ready-to-use objects, materials, surfaces, scenes, and presets. Parametric objects such as book shelves -- including the books -- let you drag and drop a completely customized living room in a snap.
