Sony PCM-D100 overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony PCM-D100 Portable Audio Recorder & Rycote Windshield and Suspension Kit is a B&H Kit that comes with everything you need to start making professional recordings outdoors. The kit includes the Sony PCM-D100 Portable Audio Recorder, a Rycote Windshield and Suspension Kit, 64GB SDXC memory card, monitor headphones, a storage pouch and a 4-hour rapid charger with four batteries.

  • Sony PCM-D100 High Resolution Portable Stereo Recorder

The PCM-D100 High Resolution Portable Stereo Recorder from Sony is capable of recording audio from its built-in stereo mics in up to 192 kHz/24-bit PCM, 2.8224 MHz DSD, or 320 kbps MP3 files. It has 32 GB of internal memory and supports external memory via its SD-XC card slot. The PCM-D100's stereo mics can be arranged in 90° XY or 120° wide stereo positions, depending on the subject being recorded.

The recorder is powered by four included AA batteries and can record approximately 6.5 hours at 192 kHz/24-bit PCM and almost 11 hours as 2.8 MHz/1-bit DSD. Its left and right record channels are individually adjustable, and its meters are illuminated for monitoring in dark environments. For faster transferring of files, the PCM-D100 has a USB port, allowing you to move your files directly to your Mac or PC. A wireless IR remote commander, furry windscreen, USB cable, and carry case are included.

    Adjustable Mics
When you're close to the sound source, adjust the PCM-D100's larger stereo microphones to 90° for a natural stereo image with depth. For orchestras and other recordings in large venues, set the two mics at 120° for realistic rich sounds with a feeling of openness
    Anti-Distortion Design
This portable recorder's "digital limiter" prevents distortion, even in cases of excessive input, by automatically adjusting to the optimal level within the buffer range of -12dB
    Minimal Internal Noise
Internal noise is almost eliminated during AD conversions because of the digital limiter mechanism. Noise is minimized for soft sounds while maintaining the same amplitude as the source sound-sometimes achieving a S/N ratio up to 100dB
    Built-in Editing Capability
Edit on your computer or on the spot. Download the audio file to your computer and edit with the Sound Forge Audio Studio LE software that comes with your recorder. Or use the Divide and Combine functions to edit as you record
    Streamlined Operation
Set up menu access the way you need it, assigning frequently used features to the F1/F2 buttons. Home/Option buttons also simplify navigation
    Super Bit Mapping
Sony's technology provides 20 bit levels of audio performance when recording 16 bits
    Dual Recording
Record in both PCM and MP3 simultaneously. Then email the MP3 while retaining the larger PCM file on your computer
    Wireless IR Remote Control
With two sensors on the IR receiver unit receiving signals from a wide range, you can use your remote to control recording from a distance. The LED lets you know when recording has stopped-especially useful in a dark room or concert hall
    Cross-Memory Recording
If the internal memory or remaining memory in the memory card runs out during recording, you're covered; the PCM-D100 can automatically switch to the other memory device to continue recording seamlessly
    Playback
Choose from a variety of playback modes, including DSD, FLAC, LPCM, MP3, WMA, and AAC-LC. Utilize playback features such as Up Sampling (PCM), Effects (PCM + MP3), Digital Pitch Control (PCM + MP3), and Key Control (PCM + MP3)

  • Senal SMH-1000 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones

The SMH-1000 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones from Senal feature a classic closed-back, over-the-ear, collapsible design. With features like interchangeable cables, a refined frequency response, wire guides, superior comfort, and durable materials, the SMH-1000 is ideal for studio and field applications.

Equipped with 40mm neodymium drivers at 58 ohm impedance, the SMH-1000 headphones are designed to be loud enough when attached to low powered devices such as mobile phones and mp3 players, yet robust enough to handle studio headphone amps without distortion. The over-ear, closed-back design is intended to help block unwanted outside noise, which is useful in professional field recording and studio monitoring scenarios where isolation is critical.

The headphones are designed with an EQ curve that's been tailored for a slightly enhanced low end that allows field engineers to detect wind noise more effectively, and for studio engineers to monitor bass and sub bass frequencies. The high frequency response has been extended to accurately reproduce spatial detail. There is also a pronounced but smooth midrange that reduces ear fatigue over prolonged periods, while maintaining focus on vocal and dialogue intelligibility.

Designed for flexibility as well as great sound, the SMH-1000 makes use of twist-lock detachable cabling. There are two detachable cables included in each box that can be used interchangeably. There is a stretchable 4 to 10' coiled cable that provides better mobility and reach, that also helps prevent snags from pulling the headphones off of your head. This can be useful when navigating through gear-cluttered recording studio environments. There is also a 3' straight cable that is useful when less slack is ideal, such as when using a waist-mounted field recorder or mixer, or when using your mobile device.

The SMH-1000 has been built with convenience, practicality and comfort in mind as well. The headphones have a collapsible folding mechanism for compact storage and transport. They also have wire guides to keep the ear-cup wires from pinching. Furthermore, they are fitted with a padded headband and soft, replaceable ear cushions to maximize comfort during extended listening.

An excellent choice for commercial recording, broadcast, home studios, and live and location sound. Also great for home and portable entertainment.
Over-ear, closed-back (circumaural) stereo headphone design to help block unwanted environmental noise. Ideal for use in professional applications such as studio or field recording.
Detachable, twist-locking 10' coiled cable and 3' straight cable included. Replacement cables also available from Senal.
Enhanced low end designed to allow field engineers to detect wind noise effectively, and for studio engineers to monitor bass and sub bass frequencies.
Pronounced but smooth midrange tailored to reduce ear fatigue over prolonged periods while maintaining focus on vocal and dialog intelligibility.
Extended high frequency response designed to reproduce spatial detail accurately. Gradual roll off at 14 kHz allows for accurate low level monitoring and hearing protection.
Padded headband and soft, replaceable ear cushions. Replacement cushions are available for purchase.
Easy storage via collapsible folding mechanism.
