Mitakon Zhongyi 135mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

A bright telephoto prime featuring an updated optical design, the Creator 135mm f/2.8 Mark II Lens from Mitakon Zhongyi is compatible with Nikon F mount FX and DX-format DSLRs. One extra-low dispersion element is incorporated within the design, and helps to markedly reduce chromatic aberrations for increased clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy when photographing in strong lighting conditions. The f/2.8 maximum aperture also benefits working in difficult lighting and also affords greater control over depth of field for using selective focus techniques.

The robust metal barrel of the lens is complemented by depth of field and distance scales, which pair with the manual focus design for greater control and use of pre- and zone focusing techniques. Additionally, the physical design also incorporates a retractable lens hood that helps to minimize lens flare and ghosting.

Prime telephoto Nikon F mount lens designed for both DX and FX sensors. On DX-sized sensors, the 35mm-equivalent focal length will be 202.5mm.
One extra-low dispersion element is incorporated within the six elements, six groups design, and helps to reduce chromatic aberrations for sharper, clearer image quality.
Manual focus design is complemented by both depth of field and distance scales for utilizing pre-focusing techniques.
A built-in retractable lens hood helps to shield the front lens element from stray light to prevent lens flare and ghosting.

    Mitakon Zhongyi 135mm f/2.8 reviews

Creator 135mm f/2.8 Mark II Lens for Nikon F is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey With the price as of today, late April 2017, the given price is rather high. Let me explain giving the cons and then the pros of this lens. CONS: -Absolutely no communication with the camera. This includes aperture control. You cannot control aperture from your camera. You will have to use the aperture ring from the lens which is located on the front of the lens. -As a consequence of the first Con, your P, A, and S Mode from you camera will not work accurately all the time. -As a consequence of the first Con, You, the camera operator, are responsible for correct metering. That is, only M mode will work also given the camera operator also sets the correct ISO setting. -Forget about using TTL if using flash system. Only Manual will work for flashes. PROS -Very sharp, even wide open. Given the not so wide biggest aperture of the lens, this may be expected. -Very small and compact. It is way thinner than I thought. Compared to other 135mm lenses this one is rather tiny. -Very nice colors are rendered with this lens. -Excellent build quality. Its all metal with built-in lens hood. Quite a sight to behold. SO if you dont mind using your camera and flash in Manual mode all the time and dont mind manual focusing as well, this a lens that should be seriously considered. Given the full price as of late April 2017, and given the CONS listed, this lens is rather pricey. If it had a 20-30 % discount it would be a definite buy with a 5-star recommendation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great find! I saw this lens and could not resist adding it to my bag, I've been playing around with it for about a month and I love it. The value for the cost is tremendous and I would absolutely buy it again. Make no mistake, the lens is 100% manual operation so naturally it takes thought and effort to compete it against the quality of a good auto lens. But that's what I wanted in the lens, I wanted to go back to when I first got started in photography, back when manual settings and thinking through rules like Sunny 16 was the norm. I have the Creator 135 mounted purposefully on a DX so I'm getting about 200mm performance. It's extremely solid in the all metal build and feels like a tool, not a toy. I'm very pleased with the purchase and the quality I'm seeing from it, I'll be considering other Zhongyi lenses in the future. It's just a lot of fun taking photos again and I have no trouble recommending the lens to anyone who wants to go retro from time to time. Special thanks to B&H for carrying the product and for the superb service. The buying process was super easy and they had the lens in my hands within two days, awesome!
