NiSi 6.6 x 6.6" Nano IRND 1.5 Filter (5-Stop)
Key Features
  • 32x Filter Factor, 5-Stop
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Allows Reduced Shutter Speed
  • Allows Wider Aperture
The NiSi 6.6 x 6.6" Nano IRND 1.5 Filter is an ND filter with a 32x filter factor that provides a 5-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

NiSi Nano Overview

The NiSi 6.6 x 6.6" Nano IRND 1.5 Filter is an ND filter with a 32x filter factor that provides a 5-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide a high level of neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks when using the NiSi 6.6 x 6.6" Nano IRND 1.5 Filter, one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating is applied to each of this filter's surfaces.

This NiSi 6.6 x 6.6" Nano IRND 1.5 Filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity, and measures 4mm thick.

6.6 x 6.6" neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a 5-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Filter does not affect coloration of the image and is ideal for use with other filters.
Each surface includes one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared light as well as visible wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure times.
Constructed from optical glass for clarity.
Leatherette pouch included for storage and transport.

question

Does this have the scratch resistant coating which was demonstrated at NAB 2016?
Asked by: Scott P.
Scott, these particular NiSi filters do have a scratch resistant coating, BUT, it is not the same as what was demonstrated during NAB 2016. NiSi has a new line of filters with a very strong scratch-resistant coating coming out later this year. That is what was being demonstrated at NAB 2016.

question

Which side should be facing away from the camera? I realize this sounds like a silly question, but since these filters appear to have identical coating on both sides, I'm curious if it should make a difference? Should I assume that the side with the engraved writing be facing AWAY from the camera? I just received 3 of these (3, 5, and 7 stop filters) and a bit dumbfounded! BTW, the quality looks fantastic, along with the packaging.
Asked by: Alexander T.
Since both sides have identical coating, it doesn't matter which way the filter is facing. We've taken them out on several shoots without noticing a difference either way.
