Sigma A00530 overview

  • 1Description

The A00530 Sigma 46mm Rear Circular Polarizing Filter is designed to be used individually with the Sigma A00090 Rear Filter Holder. Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting as well as reflections and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
2 to 4x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 to 2 stops.
Constructed from optical glass and aluminum-alloy frames.
Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

    Sigma A00530 reviews

A00530 46mm Rear Circular Polarizing Filter is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This drop in Circular Polarizer does the job I don't know how they pulled it off with this one. For those that do not know how a circular polarizer is made, they are constructed by putting together 2 Linear polarizer elements into one frame and when they turn opposite each other, it creates the light to dark effect we see through the viewfinder and the final photo. A linear polarizer on its own will not work with digital.... They are for film only, and that's why the circular type was created years ago. That being said, this Sigma 46mm filter is just one single piece of glass and relies on the holder frame to turn. It defies logic, but seems to work fairly well to deflect water reflection when shooting birds, wildlife, or watersports on my 300-800mm lens. The only downside I can see with this filter is, it certainly is not the brightest with a filter factor of 2 to 4x, or 1 to 2 stops. Some of the latest C-PL filters coming out today are rated at 1.25x filter factor factor or 1/3 of a stop. I give this filter a one point deduction for this reason.
