This B&H kit brings together the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x adapter with the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine focusing adapter and provides you with an easy-to-use anamorphic option to expand your creative horizons. The anamorphic adapter creates images with a 2.66:1 aspect ratio when used with cameras that have a 4:3 sensor. This allows you to create the widescreen effect without cropping and use the full resolution of your 4:3 sensor. You can also extracet a 2.35 image from the 2.66:1 origination.

Adding an anamorphic adapter to the front of your lens results in compromises; one of these compromises is that when pulling focus you must simultaneously adjust the focus on both the lens and on the adapter. The Rangefinder Cine mounts to your anamorphic adapter, and it then allows you to pull focus by using only the Rangefinder Cine. It mounts on lenses and adapters that have a 77mm front filter thread, and it has an integrated cine-style focus gear allowing it to interface with a wide variety of cine-style focus accessories.

    The SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x Anamorphic Adapter allows you to expand your creative horizons, enabling you to capture footage with a 2.66:1 aspect ratio on your camera with a 4:3 sensor. This results in an image that out of the camera will look distorted, as if your subjects were stretched taller and thinner than normal. This is easily corrected in post with virtually any modern NLE, creating an image suitable for viewing on wide-screen.

    The Anamorphot-50 features adjustable focus marked normal and near. The near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects closer than approximately 26' away; setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from approximately 26' to infinity. It mounts to lenses with a non-rotating front and a front thread diameter of 62mm. SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-50 2.0x be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter.

    A 4:3 sensor records an image with an aspect ratio of approximately 1.33:1, and if you want to convert that to a more cinematic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 you could crop your image in post. However, this leads to a loss in resolution and image degradation. The Anamorphot 2.0x squeezes the image horizontally, which creates the classic tall / thin image that must be "de-squeezed" in post. The anamorphic process allows you to capture your image using your entire sensor, so there is no loss in resolution when compared with cropping your image.
    The Anamorphot-50 2.0x screws onto your lens's front, providing the classic anamorphic effect. Once screwed onto your lens, you use the push/pull locking ring to align and lock the Anamorphot-50.
    Supports focal lengths between 35 and 100mm for APS-C and MFT format sensors, and 70 to 100mm for full-frame format sensors.
    The Normal/Near adjustments ring allows you to fine-tune the focus of your lens for shooting subjects closer than approximately 26'.
    It features a 77mm filter thread so you can attach optional filters, diopters, or the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine for improved focus functionality.

    Made to greatly simplify the process of focusing with anamorphic adapters, this SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter provides a calibrated focus scale, marked in feet, industry standard focus direction, and a cine-style focus gear for your lens set up. When using most anamorphic adapters that mount to the front of your lens, focusing requires matching the distance on the anamorphic adapter and the lens itself; this can cause problems when trying to pull focus. However, when using the Cine Rangefinder, you set both your anamorphic adapter and lens to infinity and pull focus on the rangefinder.

    You can use the Rangefinder Cine Adapter to provide accurate focus markings, and using the adapter minimizes the appearance of lens breathing. It mounts to lenses with 77mm front filter threads, and you can use optional step-down rings for lenses with smaller front threads. The adapter integrates a cine-style focus gear, allowing it to easily interface with a variety of optional focus accessories. It allows you to focus your lens or lens/anamorphic adapter combination from 3.5' to infinity.

    Works with SLR Magic Anamorphot adapters (1.33x50 and 2x50) to provide single gear ring focusing.
    You can use the Cine Rangefinder on lenses without an anamorphic adapter as well. This is useful when working with lenses such as Nikons, which focus in the opposite direction from cine-style lenses, or when using lenses that have neither focus gear nor reliable distance markings.
    Using the adapter allows you to minimize the effects of breathing that your lens or lens / adapter combination would ordinarily suffer from.
    Once your taking lens is properly set to infinity, the focus distances on the adapter (marked in feet) are accurate and repeatable.
    The adapter provides your lens with a focus range of 3.5' to infinity. Even if your lens or lens and anamorphic adapter combination by themselves do not focus as close as 3.5', using the adapter brings the minimum focus distance to 3.5'
    The front 82mm filter threads of the adapter rotate as you pull focus on it. This may cause unwanted optical effects when using filters such as star or polarizers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, so... I've been shooting anamorphic for about a year now and I've been looking for a great setup. I read a lot of reviews and I watched a lot of footage of this set from SLR Magic before making my purchase. The rangefinder worked great! But the lens itself was stuck solid and made it impossible to adjust it to be vertically proper with the taking lens. I decided to return the set and get the 35mm SLR Magic anamorphic prime instead. Yes, I'm limited to just 35mm right now, but it looks SO gorgeous that I know I made the right decision. I'm sure this is a great setup, I just got a lemon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It makes movie magic The two together are a great value as the rangefinder by itself is $600 but it this package only adds $200 to the price of the anamorphot. And anyone who has used an anamorphic adapter without one knows how difficult it can be to pull focus, so they really go together. Focusing is precise and easy and the 2x adds a cinematic dreaminess to the images that can only be achieved with anamorphic. I highly recommend the pair and the price is well worth it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware The price is dropping, for a reason. You cannot return or exchange it, even if it is defective, that too is for a reason. It may not be worth the risk or the hassle. The point of my post is to clarify that it clearly states it cannot be returned, but that also means it cannot be exchanged as well. My adapter must be defective as it will invariably misalign at some point in the shoot no matter how hard I tighten it to the taking lens? Or the other answer is this is a flawed design; which I think is the actual problem. � And B&H won't exchange it for me and is directing me to the manufacturer who is in Europe, I think. If you are like me, you think the adapter is the better option because you can combine it with several lenses and get multiple shooting ranges. But the honest answer is this adapter doesn't match well with all lenses, and you will need a multitude of step up and step down rings to attach the taking lens to find the right marriage.� Finding the right marriage isn't a problem for me as I have several lens and I am always searching for the best lens for a specific shot. �Using the rings don't bother me as all of my cameras are on rails with supports at both ends of the lens, so I am accustomed to an extended setup time. The problem is, after all of the necessary set up and alignment, the adapter will eventually shift in the middle of a shot. On a short film that I am producing that's ok, let's shoot it over. But on a commercial shoot the cost of losing a shot is compounded, and on a wedding that shot is lost forever. And if you do like I did and you do not heed these warnings, get the lens wrenches because you are going to need them to free your taking lens. I had never heard of a lens wrench until I totally panicked when this adapter would free itself from my taking lens, and I needed my taking lens to finish the shoot. �Then I had to figure out a plan B for my other shoots that week, as I waited for the lens wrenches to arrive. I thought I was better than most of the other posters. �I thought I was more dedicated than most other cinematographers. I thought I would be ok with all of the challenges needed to GET THE SHOT. �I was wrong. With this adapter I am most likely to ruin the shoot, in addition to the Shot. I never do reviews. �This is my very first one. �I've had nothing but great experiences with B&H. This was totally my fault, as it says it cannot be returned and that should have meant it cannot be exchanged either. I should have called in advance to clarify. � The fault is all mine. But I know there are people out there just like me trying to make a decision. �This was the experience I had. �Yours may differ but I felt compelled to share my results. �My suggestion is don't get this adapter, pay the extra money and get the real lens they offer. �I wish I did. �Or take a chance on one of their other adapters that don't have these restrictions, the performance must be better? My point is if there are all of this restrictions, there must be a reason. Now I know.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE! Cannot say enough wonderful things about this! We used this on a shoot only a few days after receiving it, which was challenging but I love a good challenge. It wasn't just any shoot either, a campaign of 3 separate commercials shot over 4 days. We used only this and a Contax Zeiss 50mm prime taking lens, and a canon close up filter between the anamorphot and rangefinder as a diopter, which also worked great. It picks up almost exactly where it leaves off without it, (around 3ft6in) and with it I can focus in at around 6-8 inches! Obviously it's very important that it's aligned correctly, but its easy to tell when you point it at any vertical lines. We used an FS700 into an Odyssey 7Q which did our desqueeze for us, and even has a setting where you can center crop for correct framing for 2.35:1. It's subtle in all the ways you'd want it to be, and has all the elements that just makes things look more cinematic We'll be buying the GH5 and I can't wait to use this with the new photo mode!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice,but... I purchased this lens and was frustrated with calibrating the flare to be aligned properly. Thought I may have been doing something wrong. After watching a tutorial online, I discovered the lens has a clutch system to help align the lens. Unfortunately my lens is stuck as well. Just contacted B&H to see if they will replace the defective lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great if you're trying to shoot anamorphic inexpensive! Part of me wishes I saved up and went with the more expensive SLR magic anamorphic lenses. This adapter requires a lot of adjusting and knowing what lenses you can and can't use. The rangefinder acts as a great tool for making focusing easier but it does limit the width of lenses you can use depending on your camera. I have achieved some great results however, and have had a lot of fun making anamorphic films for customers and fun!
