The Vixen Optics' Porta II Mount and Coronado PST Solar Scope combines an iconic Meade personal solar telescope with their innovative alt-az mount to provide users with a complete solar viewing rig. The highly-portable Coronado PST features a 40mm hydrogen-alpha optical system with a 1.0 Angstrom bandpass for increased surface detail, a 40mm external tunable etalon, a 30mm internal Etalon primary blocking filter, an integrated focuser, and bandpass fine adjustment controls to show you the dynamic, ever changing prominences at the edge of the Sun as well as filaments and other surface details in detail, all in the brilliant and distinctive red color of hydrogen-alpha (Ha) light. A Cemax 12mm eyepiece is included to produce a 33x magnification on this 400mm focal length, f/10 optical tube assembly.
Complementing the scope is Vixen's Porta II alt-az mount. This innovative mount uses a friction control system that allows you to simply turn and aim the scope with your hand for fast adjustments and when you release it, it stays in place. For fine-tuning and tracking, there are two slow motion cables to make minute adjustments and to reduce vibrations. With a 20 lb payload capacity the mount can easily handle the Coronado, and the included dovetail plate gives you the ability to mount other OTAs for astronomical viewing. An adjustable-height aluminum tripod rounds out this rig to give you a solid platform for making your solar observations.
40mm f/10 1.0Å H-Alpha Personal Solar Telescope (OTA Only)
Coronado's iconic PST 40mm f/10 1.0Å H-Alpha Personal Solar Telescope optical system is tuned to the hydrogen-alpha bandwidth with a broad 1Å (Angstrom) bandpass for viewing details of the Sun's chromosphere (surface) and prominences, as well as filaments. A bandpass tuner allows users to compensate for Doppler shift or to highlight specific areas or zones.
It is designed and engineered to be set up quickly and used easily. For simplicity, the 30mm etalon and rear blocking filters are set internally, so all users need do is mount the OTA on a stable platform and drop in the included 20mm eyepiece. The PST is offered here without a mount or tripod, but it is equipped with a standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount for using conventional photo/video/field tripods, or it can be mounted on many alt-az, EQ, or motorized astronomical mounts.

Porta II Altazimuth Mount
Built to support a 20 lb payload, and equipped with two fine adjustment handles for whole circle slow-motion in both directions, the Porta II Mount from Vixen comes with a sturdy set of legs that adjust from 35-51". The Porta II minimizes support-system oriented frustration when searching and tracking celestial objects.
The Porta II is solid, and its slow motion flexible handles minimize vibrations to keep the view sharp. Precision tracking of planets and ships on the horizon becomes a simple event thanks to a fine-tooth geared drive that's activated by turning the elevation or azimuth control handles.
The 'World-Standard' dovetail system ensures that the Porta II can be used to support most dovetail-mounted OTA and binoculars. The Porta II mount head is detachable and compatible with all other Vixen tripods. The tripod is constructed from rugged aluminum alloy, and the legs extend from 35-51".
No Locks or Clutches
Portable altazimuth mount with precision slow motion control in both axes
Slow-motion control with whole circle movement via 120-tooth wheel-gears
Tripod legs height adjustment: 35 - 51"
Mount can be removed and used on heavier tripod if needed.
Universal Plate for the Porta Mount
The Vixen Universal Plate for the Porta Mount allows you to attach spotting scopes, binoculars, DSLR lenses, or other telescopes to the fine Porta or Porta II altazimuth mount. If you with to use the Porta mount with a camera tripod with 1/4"-20 threaded screw, you will also need the #3942 camera tripod adapter.
